Is George Burley right for Scotland?

Scotland
comment on the article

George Burley has been unveiled as the new Scotland manager at a news conference at Hampden Park.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foo...

The 51-year-old former Southampton boss, who has signed a contract until 2012, said he was honoured to be asked to manage his country.

"As a Scotsman you have a vision to do well for your country," he said.

"Now the dream is to qualify for the World Cup in 2010. The country has belief, I'm certainly up for the challenge and we'll go for it."

There can be no doubting his managerial experience, having proved his credentials in domestic football in England and Scotland.

Is Burley the right man to take Scottish football forward, would you have given him the job or would McGhee have been your choice?

As ever, your thoughts would be much appreciated.

I've never played the victim. By bringing up William Wallace, it just shows how small-minded you are.

Your sitting there being all big-headed just because Capello is the manager. He's not actually done anything yet. You dont see any of us predicting that we're going to rule the World.

You're the worst kind of England fan, but you're not the only one.....

No but your lot harp on about World rankings and going up them , no one has ever in my life ever gone on about World rankings in football , they mean very very little , if Scotland were no1 would you believe they were ? Rankings in football are a joke , it is not clear cut !
Southampton fans have been calling for Burley's head all season in case you did not know ! He knows nothing of tactics , formations and could not inspire Sir Don Bradman , Mike Tyson or Pele . You have got a right spanner , he is called gluggy2 down here and not without reason , Bells must of felt they had died and gone to heaven at his appointment as your National Team Coach laugh

Since 1966 what have England actually achieved? And don't say last 8 all the time. Do you hear Italy,Brazil,Germany,Argentina saying that is a great achievement, for their standards that is not acceptable. I know the press play a huge part in over-hyping the team up but the fans are gulity of believing they are far better than they actually are. Name me 5 players from the current England side who you would consider world class?

SteveThornhill? Doesn't sound like a Scottish name to me. I guess why that guy thought you were English was that you suggested that unless Burley won a world cup or European champ then he is a failure. Scottish football fans tend to have more realistic expectations than this and would probably consider qualification for a world cup success and 2nd round qualification great success. Seems like an odd statement to make for a Scotsman on the day a new national team manager is appointed. I think just about all Scottish fans are happy that the team is competitive at a good level again and we have our respectabillity back. How that relates to the the EPL or English national team isn't important to Scottish fans. Why would it be? Hence I belive that you are pretending to be Scottish in order that you are taken a little more seriously.

What a stupid remark.
We're not all called Angus Angus mate.
Bluto that doesn't sound very scottish either now does it? Are you actually a character from an American Kids cartoon pretending to be a human being?

My Great Grandfather was James McBay (The Famous Scottish Artist)
Is that A Scottish enough name for you?

Doesn't matter what name you use I won't take you seriously.

dear children i will try to sum up your talk as best i can i am a scotsman which is a country in partnership with england we may have our petty ideas of grandness who invented this who done that but the fact is these days are passed now although in some ways it pains me to say together not one ruling over the other which i must say englad cant get over or understand we have stuck together in every battle conflict and world tradegy since the union was formed england might think they rule scotsman might think they have been hard done by but the fact of the matter is we wouldnt have achieved nothing without each other now i know this is difficult to comprehend but its true and it will become more clear as the future unfolds ? now back to the subject in hand george burley is an excellent choice the problem is will the the media be proud of being scottish aswell as british and give the national progress the backing it needs (get it up you charlie nicholas and such like)same goes for the english media who think that england aka rule brittania have the god givin right to greatness they dont but at the same time they deserve respect they have excellent players as do the new crop from scotland believe thats true and stop talkin shit and think about who stirs all the pis* in the firstplace slanja va when we we see ther likes again
