1 set up and 3 games to love!

this is a different sharapova to what we saw last year. very determined, moving extremely well and powerful shots.

I believe most critics will have their lips sealed & fingers clutched with this resounding defeat to Henin & outstanding win for Sharapova. I call it an outclass

Simply stunning !!

Since she had that bit of Kryptonite removed from her shoulder towards the end of last year, SuperSharra has looked quite invincible,(only match fitness stopped her from beating Henin in Madrid.)
What odds of a Golden Slam like Graf did 20 years ago ?? If I had spare money I'd be on it.

Also congratulations Maria, you came back from a quite disastrous last year, when there numerous calls to resign etc etc, and showed your determination to be the best.
And heck, right now you ARE the best.

‘Thanks sportsrep. I presume their only slam meetings have been at Wimbledon. If so, I reckon that's a more realistic form guide, as the Williams sisters consistently show far more motivation when it really matters, and in the two matches at SW19, Maria was never in it.’

Hmm, maybe Phrasmotic, though personally I feel that grasscourt form is really only a guide to grasscourt form, and 2 of Sharapova’s wins were in Miami, which is probably the biggest tournament outside of the Slams.

Lies, damned lies and statistics, eh… biggrin

Whenever i watch the womens tennis i just think of the massive gulf in talent compared to the mens game and when i think about it its not actually as entertaining as the mens game unless you are watching it for another reason winkeye

Henin's right! The way Sharapova is playing, i can see her winning this tournament. The only potential roadblock for her is Venus Williams who plays a similar style..but after this rout of Henin (winner of 32 in a row!!!), Sharapova has got to be the favorite. After the year she had in 2007, it's hard for me to root against her.

As fantastically premature forecasts go, that takes some beating!
