Day Two - Africa Cup of Nations

African Nations Cup
comment on the article

Greetings goal addicts, hope you got some rest last night.

Because today - Day Two - of the Africa Cup of Nations 2008 is as blockbusting as Sulluy Muntaris' last-gasp winner last night, an epic tour de force of footballing shenanigans.

Three games, six teams, and the hopes of millions of Africans strewn across the globe resting upon roughly 80 athletic shoulders.

First up, it's Namibia v Morocco at 1500 GMT. That's the second game in Group A and already a 'crunch' tie.

Straight after that (1700 GMT), we've got the heaviest of heavyweight clashes - Nigeria v Ivory Coast - in Group B. Ivory Coast are among the favourites and Super Eagles (pictured) are the best team in Africa according to Fifa.

And to top it all off on officially the longest day of the tournament, we finish with Benin v Mali, an intriguing encounter with some world-class players on show.

Enough hyperbole from me, I want to hear your thoughts.

Who will be the winners and losers today?.....

And which players should we be looking out for? Can you unearth any unknown gems for us?.....

Enjoy the matches and make sure you GET INVOLVED.

I am here again, some more messages from the gods!!! It is in your best interest to listen:

1 Sack Vogt - his name sounds more like a vegetable than an Iron in Christian Chukwu or Ogegbami or any such.

2 Now that Yakubu has shown he has intention of returning, as trequired by his work permit, he can be dropped. If he plays like that in Everton, no one will touch him. At least bench him for the last 3 minutes, I mean added time.

3 Kanu should take the part of honour and retire.

4 Is Okocha still training - please let us sedn some roasted brochos to him - men understand the spiritual significance of that.

5 NFA should give Scotland FA a call to enquire on why Vogt was sacked.

6 Please kill some fouls and goats for Mikel and Martins and Odenwengie - that is just the wishes of the gods. I will find out the significance.

7 I am not working today bcos mourning the loss. The gods say I am off sick. I hope my boss understands this thing about the gods and their wishes.

8 Just a minute, the gods just sent for me, I see an ant climbing up my feet to whiusper in my ears the call - keep your eyes here for update from the shrine!!!
I will be back.

Do you all reckon nigeria will be pounded by mali? Gosh..but they seem outright despondent to me at the moment. Completely awful performance against the ivory coast. CIV and mali to go through. Niogeria's got absolutely no team in berti vogts.

There is no question the grass was long. Bushy in fact.
But the conditions were the same for both teams.

I wondered about that Ghana penalty though.

Nigerian players yesterday displayed a replica
comic by the "famous" England team ( managed of course by the legendary McClown )against Croatia at Wembley ,last year.Nigeria has not
played a decent game since the likes of Finidi
George,Emma Amuneke,Sunday Oliseh e.t.c retired from the team.I wonder who among these
present lots will provide the qualities like
super eagles of 1994 world cup.

Committment was the missing ingredient in the Nigerian team yesterday and that was absolutely disgraceful. Whatever happened to the-last-drop-of-my-blood mentality when playing for your national team.
Our Super Eagles, or rather headless chickens were so disjointed it beggars belief.
They played as if they wanted to be on the first flight out of Accra. How do you explain Didier Drogba undergoing an operation, just a month before the tournament began thus missing important games for ChelseaFC - just so that he can lead the Ivorien team in Ghana. Can you imagine an European-based Super Eagles player doing that?
The only reason most of these players bother to turn up at all for Nigeria is because they need to play in at least 75% of all competitive games for their country in order to have their work permits renewed according to EU law.
I still think that we might go all the way but it might be better if we dont get past the first round so that we can re-group for South Africa 2010.

Mistake a lot of people have made here is pretending they know a lot about Benin football and y saying Mali werew unconvincing doesn't tell the real story of this group that there isn't a weak team in it.

You'll see this for yourself when Benin play Nigeria and IC.
They aren't the best team in Africa but are far and away from being the worst.

Really should engage before making ill founded comments.

Mail are a very serious threat to Nigeria.
For that matter Benin wont be brushed aside either.

Two groups of death in the same tourney!
