"Dream Final" Djokovic vs. Nadal?

by bingting (U9636154) 21 January 2008
comment on the article

Nadal and Djokovic are the only top players not yet to have lost a set.

On the contrary, Federer was pushed to the limit by 49-ranked Tipsarevic, and Berdych had his chances but managed to play a most pathetic tie-breaker I have ever seen since I started to follow tennis!!!

Mr. Berdych was leading 5-2 in the second set tie-breaker, with two of his own serves coming. And later he also had a number of set points. And yet he squandered all of them mainly through his own UEs. The pathetic choice of a highly risky drop-shot at set-point is simply beyond any comprehension of a healthy brain! Only the choking of Djokovic at USO 07 final (serving 6-5, 40-0, and managed to lose the set!)could rival such notorious tie-break demonstrated by Mr. Berdych today! Though Federer continue to advance, I don´t think any analytical person would feel satisfied with his performance thus far.

But Djokovic is a different player today, as he continues to demonstrate his outstanding skills. And Nadal, who won 3 MS titles on the hard-court, is still seeking his first GS title on this surface. Maybe the time has come for the younger generation to take over the torch and meet each other in the AO final, which IMO is highly likely. Your thoughts on this will be very welcome!

"Djokovic vs. Federer, you have to go with Djokovic"

-----------------

laugh Not if you're the bookies you don't.

Djokovic is about 5/1 or 6/1 to win the tournament.

Fed is strong odds-on to win the tournament.

Now why do you think that is? winkeye

Too defensive still and open to attack from a lot of players.

RQ we are singing from the same hymnsheet winkeye

If Fed stays in this defensive mode he could easily lose. He will beat Blake but Nadal/Djoko are a real threat this event.

If it was all fair, the final should have been between Djokovic and Federer, so we'll be treated to two, instead, and I would hop and love Djokovic to trash Nadal 3-0. I think he can easily do it provided he skips Fe(r)derer hrdles.
C'MON NOLE!

"we are singing from the same hymnsheet "

Yes, we certainly are, duggietoo. It's why I think it's overdue for him to get himself a non-technical coach but that's another topic.

Am I missing something, Federers brilliant, the fact that he had an early test and came through it is good. Better play poorly against a weak opponent rather than a good one. Everyone said that Federer was in decline at the Masters yet he slaughtered Nadal and Ferrer. Everyone seems to want tp prdict his downfall, the fact is that he is the best and will be for many years, anyone whos seen him play can see that.

Federer has a great record against Blake and I'd expect that alone to get him into the semis. Djokovic I think I would fancy to knock Fed out, but it's a close call. However, Ferrer is more than capable of beating Djokovic before it reaches that stage but I don't think he'd stand a chance against Federer.

Nadal is practically guaranteed to beat Niemenen but his semi could be a stumbling block. Youzhny has an impressive record against Nadal and Tsonga is just plain fearless so who knows. I'd say Youzhny realistically has far more chance than Tsonga though.

Saying all this, I still expect a Federer v Nadal final. Nadal to win.

But Fed will get his revenge at the French, mark my words.

Novak will be the toughest player in the tournament, but the critical point everybody forgets is that does he have the big match temperment against big players?, Ans is certainly NO, did u see Last year's US Open where he choked to submission from a winning position.

Roger can raise hi level as he plays bigger opponents on big matches, the only player to match is Rafa, who again can play bigger opponents on bigger stages.

SO if U ask me Rafa vs. Youzhny who will win?
certainly Nadal, since Youzhny would win if it is a 3 set match not a 5 set match.

2nd semi, likely Roger vs Novak, will be tough fight but Roger will see throu it, reason pschological edge.

Final- Roger vs Rafa, who will win?

Ans- Roger , since he is the better player on Hard courts.

Nice comment, mrbigboo. smiley Though you didn't pick my fave Nadal as the likely champion, I think your opinion is very objective, unlike the others'!

the "Dream Final" is now only one round away!!! and neither Nadal nor Djokovic has yet dropped a set!!! Djokovic´s total demolition of Ferrer already merits a place in the final, and Nadal is no too far behind either -- the two most outstanding players in the AO 08. One can hardly argue against it, if he or she is not a fool! It will be a close match, but I see Djokovic triumph this time in four sets on Sunday.
