good1son-I part agree with you about MOTD-but thats what I like about Shearer that he is just like an ordinary fan down at the pub Ask anyone who has played with him and they"ll tell you what an inspiration he is on the park I"ve watched many live NUFC matches where he has dragged the team up by their bootlaces and by sheer example and pride got us through

Totally agree. Shearer needs experience - he keeps talking about it, but does not seem to do anything about it. It seems as though he thinks he has a divine right to manage Newcastle in the future. If so, he needs to motivate people - he sounds dull and not very inspiring (when you listen to him on MOTD). He's also arrogant - what's wrong with starting off as a Number 2?

All things said, I really do hope Keegan turns things around at Newcastle - and that he doesn't jump ship as soon as things start going wrong - a time to bring in Shearer.

Someone please tell immature egocentric shearer we would all like to start our careers at the top.
Has not he realised that times may have changed since renowned footballers assumed they were eligible for management - ferguson is probably the last to be successful but even he has realised that UK footballers are not the best prepared for the wider challenges. A new breed of manager eg wenger & mourino & benetez served their time learning skills & tactics & man-management beyond this ethnocentric island that were globally relevant. Tell shearer to apply for an apprenticeship and not wait on the BBC sofa for a call. His BBC punditry has not contained a single comment that is not bleedingly obvious, unless I dosed off and missed it.
Had he not been an undeserved inarticulate member of the BBC MOTD team the others might have had the guts to critically evaluate his candidature for newcastle by now.

I can't help thinking that all this saga about Shearer/Keegan/Newcastle is becoming a political debate trying to focus the minds of people somewhere else.I wonder if Shearer's role is already decided and probably is not going to be a major one,the people who need to know they do already and the rest is just to distruct.Give the fans something to talk about as we get on with the job.Keegan praises AS that he will be a Newcastle manager sometime (but not soon) etc.Especially if you already know he is not going to join, you talk nicely about him.The question is how will it be served?Who will appear to be pulling back?If Keegan does not want and the funs know it they will get at him with the first chance and so on...
There will be a lot of episodes (North-eastenders)

Newcastle fans and being realistic shouldn't be used together, or put in the same sentence.

Exactly right. We'd all like to start our careers at the top, but the Arsenal and Man U. positions are filled, so what's wrong with getting your feet wet at a second tier outfit like Newcastle Alan?
