I meant: But why don't these kind of Roger matches happen more often?

Were you folks aware that Federer is recovering from a stomach virus? Saw a brief line that said he had been hospitalized just a few days ago.

Yesterday's game can be considered one of the best tennis matches ever played. Although Fed came out triumphant, Tipsaveric earned a great deal of respect from tennis fans for his show.

Well with his No 1 ranking on the line (if he had lost to Tipsarevic & Nadal wins(championship) then he loses his No 1 ranking) he just showed once again what a great champion he is. I'm sure i'm not alone in saying this but at one stage in the fifth set it looked like a real upset was on the cards. But all great champions are made of stern stuff and when there backs are against the wall they produce the goods. That's what Fed did, so to all those who knock the great man, just for once appreciate what a great player he really is, when he has to step up he does just that. Also let me salute Tipsarevic, because he played the match of his life, really hope he goes on from this match and climbs up the rankings, hope he does't just fade away like many players who occasionally give the top players a scare. Well done to both players for a truly great match !!

I had a gut feeling Tipsarevic was going to give Federer a real match, strangely even an upset could have been on the cards, when I woke up and checked the scores it was 8-8 in the 5th, then I turned on the cable channel and watched the scores at 8-8, what I saw of Federer's brilliant returning shows just why he is the best in the world, Tipsarevic was belting the ball and serving like a rocket yet Federer was able to read and swing back some of those very hard shots back into play with the same power and pace of the way they were served to him. Federer is a class champion, and this sort of match will only give him the match practice and match toughness he will take into the next rounds and shake off his mistakes he made today. I believe if he has got through this sort of match (in the way someone like Roddick couldn't) then I reckon he's still going to be the champion because he has such class and bottle to go with that skill. He's a true great and true No.1

What we saw is not so hard to describe. Try "HISTORY", topped off by "CLASS" bubbly

Thanks, aborgfan.

Again, nothing to take away from Janko. But as I said earlier, either he played the match of his life or he is soon on the climb to top 10 if not top 5. I do hope that he climbs up the rankings. Otherwise it would only prove that he caught Roger on a bad day where his forehand was misfiring, backhand wasn't helping and almost caused the biggest upset in four or five years.

Folks, Australian Open is famous for discovering talent. This year is no exception. Watch out for Marin Cilic. He looks like a top 5 player. He is the first 6" 5" player that not only has a big serve but a great net game.
