Australian Open

So we are heading closer and closer to the second week and the top seed ladies are looking in good shape. I have to say i am still non the wiser to who will come to the semis. Dementieva is really suprising me. Did you notice that her first serve percentage is 2nd overall!?
She just smashed Peer 60 62 and seems to be in great shape. What do you think of her chances? Well i would love her to continue but Sharapova is up next for her and she looks very impressive this week. As the tourny goes on, i am not totally convinced the Henin will have it all her own way. I think this years Australian open is the most exciting and unpredictable since years. I don't see Jankovic going the distance.

Here are my predictions for the quarters:

Henin v Sharapova
Mauresmo v S. Williams
V.Williams v Ivanovic
Chakvetadze v Kuznetsova

Venus has been looking scratchy in her first few rounds; however I expect her form to rise quickly as she begins to hit the 4th round. Justine looks a step slow as well, Serena looks ok but at the moment I wouldn't like to predict anything. I am looking forward to Justine Vs Sharapova. Judging on appearances so far it wouldn't surprise me if Sharapova beats Henin. Vaidisova can pose problems for Serena, depending on Serena I expect her to win in 2 tight sets. One thing that I am impressed with lately about Serena is that I see her using the net a lot more often. During her 2nd round match she really dominated the net area. Playing doubles is probably giving her the confidence to rush the net just a bit more than she usually does. Venus and Ivanovic is again another interesting match-up, however if Venus picks up her stride I expect it to be another 6-4 6-2 job.

Forget all that. It really guts me to see Roddick, such a likeable guy just clearly not have what it takes to win a major.

I am almost relieved for once to see him go out to someone other than Federer and see that face on him of sheer hurt in knowing he just doesnt have enough.

Ok so Momo is out of the contest so i will have to change my predictions. Now Mo is out i will put Jankovic in her place. Dellacqua has done very well but i don't want to see her further into the tourny. I am really looking forward to the Sharapova v Dementieva match. I would love to see Elena do well she is one of the players who has been playing for a long time without a major so it would be great!

Yeah good point. Federer just shows that no matter how well he plays - he loses....

hmmm quarter final predictions. i back Henin and Sharapova to reach there without too much difficulty maybe a close 2 setter. but a 2 setter nevertheless. Dellacqua against jankovic is harder as Dellacqua has had 3 long matches, but disposed of both schynder and mauresmo in the process. Jankovic hasn't been in top form either so i'm going to be bold and go for Dellacqua in 3 sets. Serena and Nicole should be a good one. but i'm going to go with Serena on that. the bottom half is a little simpler. that should be Venus Ivanovic, but i'll go with hantuchova rather than A chak to face kuznetsova

With Mauresmo out, I will love to see how Serena handles the left-handed little Aussie with the massive home crowd rooting for her!

I pray Casey Dellacqua can bring her Mauresmo game along (and even better it, if I get lucky)so I would not have to wait till next Saturday for the final...

I was wondering if I had already seen the men's final in Roddick - Kohlschreiber and then, this morning, I am watching the king being taken to the tapes by a complete outsider whose game is not really up to the German's!

Now that the bottom half of the draw has opened up somewhat, I'm going to predict that Venus will reach the final. The top half is obviously more difficult to predict given the fact that it contains Henin, Serena and Sharapova, but I'll stick my neck out and go for Serena. That would make it an all-Williams final.

Do the ladies get paid the same as the men in this competition? The reason I am asking is because most of the guys seem to be out there for over 3 hours while the ladies are about 66% less work time at about an hour.

I would be having a word with my boss if this were the case where I work!!yikes

Your prediction wasn't bad, sbob....

Henin vs Sharapova is a mouth-watering ecnounter. Serena will play Jankovic instead, but the Serb has really struggled this tournament. Venus against Ivanovic is another match I can't wait to see. But the final quarter-final is anyone's bet!
