Must do better

Manchester City
comment on the article

If the Blues want to go further in this competition they will have to play much better than that. BORING football not what we want to see

Let's clear this up - Anton Ferdinand is definitely NOT world class. He's only the fourth best central defender at West Ham (after Upson, Gabbidon and Collins). On a night when defences were generally on top, the best defender on show last night was Matthew Upson. Richards and Dunne were not far behind.

To be fair, it was a poor game (as it always seems to be against City) and the slightly better team probably lost in the end. Apart from a 15 minute spell in the second half, West Ham were just about on top. But City took their one real chance and West Ham didn't take either of the two good chances we created.

Good luck to City. I really hope you beat those pathetic whingers from Sheffield.

But watch out Sunday, because we won't be so profligate again if we create clear chances. The League means more than the Cup (unfortunate that this is) and the lads will be really up for it. They definitely won't want to lose for a third time against this opposition.

1 - 0 to us next time, I reckon!

C'mon You Irons!

Why do you think West Ham are playing so poorly. They beat Man Utd 2-1 so can't be too bad but is Curbishley the problem?

Did they play a lot more expansive game under Alan Pardew?

I seem to remember them being a lot more attractive team than they are now.

Like Liverpool with Crouch they seem to just hit long balls up to Ashton. Now Ashton can deal with these comfortably but it makes your team very one dimensional and Ashton can provide so much more.

I think Bellamy will make a big difference when he returns.

I thought overall city were dire last night (that doesn't say much about us) but at times they sparked and looked formidable. Bianchi made the difference to City. We looked flat and unimaginative up front. I question also Curbishly's substitution (Faubert for Fred). It might have been alright to opt for fresh legs if we were 3 nil up. However, they guy needs more games under his belt before he can manke a difference for what we needed last night.

Just a note to Blueatherts:

West Ham were poor (as were City). But we are still playing with half a squad of players, whereas City have very few injury problems.

We will soon have Bellamy back. Gabbidon, Parker, Solano, Zamora and Dyer were unavailable last night. Bowyer, Faubert, Boa Morte and Etherington are all just back from injury. It's not easy - but we will only get better.

So cut the quips. With a full strength side we will be more than a match for City, Everton, Villa and all the other 'nearly' teams behind the top four.

Just watch out for West Ham over the next couple of years. All winning teams are based on sound defence. We have that now under Curbs and soon we will be able to unleash better attacking football once the creative players are all fit.

Hopefully starting Sunday!

What were you expecting from this line up?

Man City steal a 1 - 0 win against a defensive West Ham team aiming for mid table. Man City are no the best side in the league.

Pretty good result for them.

On the up for West Ham Curb's will keep you solid enough this season to avoid the drop. Give him time.......

I thought the second half was good. West Ham had a couple of chances in the first half and perhaps should have taken the lead but City outpassed them after the break and Elano showed what a world class player he is.

Two uncommitted teams produced an absolute shocker. These two teams represent arguably the best of the rest (outside the big 4) at the moment, but this game will be easily forgotten (thank god).

As a passionate West Ham fan i find it hard sometimes to understand Curbishley's team selection. Why does the manager keep persisting with Boa Morte. I know we have injuries at the moment but surely there has to be better at the club.

Etherington seemed weighed down by that new lucrative contract he signed yesterday (waste of money). We need a winger like Petrov who ever time he gets the ball you know the full back is in for a torride time (like Lucas Neill). Are current wingers seem only capable of going passed the defender if they were driving a car.

This Sunday promises to be another cracker, a banker 0-0 or winner by the odd goal (1-0).

One final point, how come Sven could not manage to make England so hard to beat. Surely the players available to him as England coach were far superior to the players at Man City.

Good luck to City in the next round.

you're having a laugh - after the Boa Morte effort you barely had a look in.

Its this kind of arrogance that shows why England fans are always left dissapointed. Youre not that great!

All this talk about kicking racism out of the game and blaming supporters. Lets look at the people on the pitch at the centre of attention .Racism isnt just about colour its more than that. Why did the referee in the City V West Ham game continually persecute a certain GERMAN player every time he went anywhere near a the ball ? Smacks of a certain historical vendetta . The BBC will probably remove this post because the truth often hurts but did anyone else notice this last night ?

As has already been said the reason the ref kept on pulling Hamman up for fouls was because thats what they were, He was clumsy, slow and late..the same as in the first game at Upton Park!!!!Historical vendetta my ****

Because Hamann is a useless old codger who's only role in football is to commit fouls and stop good players playing?

Two rubbish team, two defensive managers, 21 rubbish players, 1 world class player - Anton Ferdinand.
