Martinez for Newcastle?

League One Swansea City

The BBC has reported that Newcastle's life president Sir John Hall has been quoted that Roberto Martinez is a good outside bet for the vacant Newcastle post. It doesn't surprise me that these rumors will be bantered around as Roberto has been doing a fantastic job at the Liberty Stadium. Hall said “do you try and find someone who can give us the football we had under (Kevin) Keegan ……There's the Swansea manager, Martinez, who seems to be turning them around."

My question is this, if we continue to do well in the league and cup competitions how long can we expect to keep our Spanish magician?

Just remember " money talks - people walk".
If you were Senor Martinez & you were possibly offered
quite a few million to go to Newcastle???
Get real - it's a possibility IF he is offered the job.

I don't think he'd go there. It's a poisoned chalice. What makes you think he can do any different to Newcastle's what, 5 managers since Keegan? Forget it. No-one in their right mind would go there.

This story is madness. Newcastle wouldn't consider it in a million years. Don't get me wrong Martinez is doing great at Swansea, but it's early days yet in his managerial career, and he's not a big enough name to satisfy the fans. Plus, I don't want him to leave :o)

The biggest worry for all Swansea fans is that Real Zaragosa have sacked their coach!! Let's hope Roberto can resist any temptation to go back to Spain at this early stage of his Managemment career.

I agree in theory Steve but experience clearly isn't number one in the newcastle agenda as Shearer is the fancs choice and in with a good chance of being approached by Newcastle but i can't see him going. Not to Newcastle and not to any other club that would likely approach him! He;s built something great here!!

If he was offerred the job he would be stupid not to take it.

But I can't see it happenning, for one thing the Toon Army would nver accept somene who with the best will in the world is nowhere near a big name.

I was surprised he wasn't connected with the Wigan job to be honest, he did after all have a good history there as a player and they would have been more likely to go for a lower league manager.

In all seriousness though whether we get promoted or not he will likely be saought after by bigger clubs in the summer. If we don't go up then there are a host of CCC clubs likely to want a new manager and if we do his stock will be even higher so even some lower prem clubs might be interested.

Martinez knows that he is not ready for a premiership club.

At the moment we have won nothing and he has not been a club manager for a year yet.

What Hall said was that he is being watched and people are aware of what he is doing but that can be said of several managers in the lower divisions ie Paul Ince and such.

This is not to say he is not capable of achieving this just not yet only have to look at what Sam Alardyce achieved at Bolton and then "goodnight vienna".

The way Martinez will get a top job is first achieving promotion and then building a strong championship side and then when this has been accomplished will he want to leave a succesful club.

Redknapp was never going to take the Newcastle job for him it did 3 things..........

1 Got him an immediate increase in salary (100%)

2 Taught the big guys a lesson for the first time they were told NO!

3 Got him a vote of confidence when in actual fact Portsmouth have lost 6 of their last 8 games (may not be accurate but thereabouts)

Take away the razz matazz and Portsmouth are not doing as well as they were and look decidedly average after spending a lot of money.

Not bad work if you can get it!

Martinez has been quoted as saying

"I've got a lot of things to do here. The day I won't be at Swansea City will not be down to me,"

Remember those words guys .... remember those words.
