No Premier League dalliance for Klinsmann

Bayern Munich
comment on the article

So... Jurgen Klinsmann will coach Bayern Munich from 2008-09.

He has been linked with any number of Premier League clubs this season - Chelsea, Spurs, perhaps even Liverpool? - and in the last day or so Newcastle.

When the FA was in limbo over Steve McClaren's successor he even attracted a bit of support in the betting markets to be England coach.

But the lure of a job at home, and for Germany's biggest club - one he played for with great distinction - has been too much.

How good a coach is Klinsmann? Not a lot on his CV but third spot in the World Cup was a good start.

As ever, your views are most welcome...

Yes Klinsi will move from california to germany, his american wife accepted to start new in germany. Such things are always not easy for the kids but i guess klinsis kids are very clever.

I like that klinsmann is a very modern coach and he already said in the press conference that he will hire an international team of experts for example for fitness. He is good for revolutions and modern training. He can bring the "Team-spirit" to the players, he speaks german, french, italian, english and is now learning spanish. He is a good guy.

Cheers, mate. ok

I thought I heard at one point that she didn't want to leave America, and I wondered if he was going to have to commute home to visit her.

Klinsmann is a winner wherever he goes. I'm sure in the first season, Beckenbauer will have some "quiet" input, so its not as if Klinsmann is on his own. However, given time, he has the potential to be an excellent manager.

I don't know how you can call taking a team to the World Cup semi finals as 'not much on the CV'. Not many managers have done that.

Of course, he's a young manager and if you compare him to the likes of Capello, Rehhagel, Lippi and Ferguson, of course his CV will look bare. Germany was his first job in football. The work he did deserves another big job. Bayern is a club he was a star for, so if Alan Shearer (zero experience) can be a serious contender for the Newcastle job, I don't see any reason why Klinsmann can't go back to Bayern and manage them seeing as he has actually coached successfully at the highest level. Frank Rijkaard has won two La Liga titles with Barcelona despite 'not much on the CV' prior to that; Carlo Ancelotti over the past 10 years made the big step up from successful player to successful coach in Italy with some big teams.

As a Spurs supporter I dream that one day he'll manage us and I believe he will make a great success of Bayern Munich. Anyone not impressed with what he achieved with an ordinary German team is not giving him the credit he deserves.

ok

Too right.

Bayern Munich is a very big club, and I don't think they'd waste their time on someone who they didn't think could do the job. JK will be fine, IMO.
