Rumours on Welsh website icwales.com are suggesting that new Wales coach Warren Gatland is preparing to finalise a deal with highly rated Wasps head coach Shaun Edwards to take on the role of defence and assistant coach. First, reports that Gatland is preparing to step up his bid to add former colleague Edwards to his backroom staff:

icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/rugb...

Closely followed by reports in a related article stating that Gatland is preparing to finalise the appointements of Edwards and former Wales scrum-half Rob Howley:

icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/rugb...

Also the most recent speculation from right here on the BBC website:

news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rug...

And the latest news stating that Gatland is set to unveil Edwards and Howley as the first additions to his backroom staff and also hinting towards the exits of fitness coach Mark Bennett, kicking coach Neil Jenkins and technical coach Robin McBryde when their contracts expire after the Six Nations and the possibility of former Ireland and Wasps fitness coach Craig White becoming Gatland's latest target:

Wasps' chief executive Tony Copsey also seems to have given way slightly and has confirmed that negotiations between the Londoners and Wales are indeed ongoing:

What do you think of these most recent reports? I don't hold a great amount of respect for this website but if, as they claimed, these rumours came from Gatland himself, I can't see any reason for it not to be true.

If we wanna see a Welsh backline consistently run across the pitch, lack direction, and with no purposeful kicking game like the Blues week in week out then hallelujah, Howley might just be the backs coach the Welsh team are looking for... god help us!!!

If Wales appoint Edwards England have missed a real trick here. He has been the architect of Wasps succes over the past 5 years. The blitz defence that took Leicester apart in the Premiership final a few years ago to name just one occassion.

It seems to me that Rob Andrews comments on the possibility of Edwards joining the Welsh coaching set-up are designed to put thoughts in the minds of the Wasps board. He it obviously very bitter about coming second best, but who can blame Edwards when he has the option of full international experience over the Saxons.... and to work with an exciting coach such as Gatland, rather than Brian Ashton, who is so insecure in Englands own running ability he has to recruit a Tongan!

Anyone know where K.J's son rhys plays now. i played rugby a couple of times with him at RTB Ebbw vale years ago, i heard he was developing into a good player but not heard anything for a while. Anyway, i think K.J will give the Wales job a crack in a few years time. Between him and his dad theres excellant rugbu knowledge.

Rob Andrew hates anything that would benefit the Welsh. When I met him, he was the most arrogant anti-Welsh person I've ever met.

Rob Andrew was always a bitter bloke after being a good fly-half, but not being England first choice. Strikes me as a bit of a saddo really.

Rob Andrew just hates to think that he has lost him to Wales. Well done Wales for getting him

I was ticked off for failing to fully support BA the other day, but the more I look at the team he picked the more conservative it looks. He wants to play heads up rugby? Old dogs and new tricks don't generally go together and Mr Rob, just what is my job, Andrew's latest comments are surely proof that he knows full well that the suits have decided on the wrong man.

And here I was thinking that the English knew what an EPD's role was. Over here in Wales it seems like the TV media at any rate, thinks that Graeme Maw is a glorified fitness coach. Which isnt really what we need.
