This is the thread to discuss LUTON TOWN V LIVERPOOL in the F.A. Cup Third Round.

Luton Town have snatched a well deserved 1-1 draw with Liverpool this afternoon, thanks to a great performance by Drew Talbot.

The first half saw a lot of pressure by Luton after the lively opening twenty minutes, but nobody could find the breakthrough. Luton looked the better team at half-time, and deserved to go in at the break at least with a draw.

In the second half, Liverpool got back into the game, having pressure of their own, but Luton still continiued to look the most dangerous side.

With pressure mounting on Benitez by the second, Peter Crouch's break away goal eased the pressure for a little while. A poor clearance first of all went strainght to Xabi Alonso, who tried to find Voronin over the top, but a poor defensive header released Voronin & Benayoun, who for a moment, seemed to get in each other's way, but Voronin took control, and his low shot was saved by the outstreched left leg of the Luton keeper Brill, only to be met by Peter Crouch for a tap in.

Luton never gave up however, and within the space of two minutes, it was 1-1. Drew Talbot, the Man Of The Match, played a ball across from the right, which was met by John Arne Riise. The ball cannoned off his left leg, off his left arm, and nestled into the right corner of the net to give Luton a well deserved equaliser.

Luton continiued to press in the last ten minutes or so, but couldn't get a fairytale ending to a great FA Cup tie.

They will play the replay at Anfield a week on Tuesday.

Luton were impressive. Another frustrating performance from the Reds. I don't like watching them at the moment. Rafa needs to sort himself out with the Board....or go. You don't muck about with your bosses when they've invested that amount of dosh.

The problem about Liverpool is not Rafael Benitez management but the quality of the team. They have too many mediocre players.

1 thing we all have to agree on is that without Torres and Gerrard Liverpool are a midtable Prem team,

And if both got injuried for any period of time Pool would struggle to beat any Prem team!!

So are we saying that the only reason Luton played so well was because Liverpool played so badly?

I think they (Luton) deserve a bit more credit and respect than that.

Yep, that just about sums it up. Luton only stood a chance because Liverpool underperformed.

Credit? Respect? Of course they deserve both but let's be fair. If Liverpool played to a fifth of what they are capable of it would have been no contest.

I do like Liverpool and I did tip them at the beginning of the season with one reservation. Benitez's rotation policy. I'm not saying that had anything to do with the Luton result but it does prove that Liverpool are not ready for a prem challenge. They are far too inconsistent.

They draw matches they should be winning.

I'm an avid pool supporter and i say fair play to luton as we were terrible. At least we're still in it though unlike the blue half and you'll see a turnaround at anfield.
Rafa must stay but must make a bigger signings. he has only signed two players with world class potential (that being Torres and Babel)the rest of the signing this year have not worked so far. To spend £17m on JM would also be way over the top for a guy that just looks like he can't be bothered!!! I believe Rafa can make it work with the right money. If the short sighted jump on the band wagon amercians will allow that. Look at Ferguson. He nearly lost his job at utd before he got it right and has never looked back!

C'mon Rafa, have patience all you reds and support him!!!

Tell me, whose fault is it that Rafa has made only two good signings?

If you owned Liverpool would you give him more funds or make sure that he can get results with the players at his disposal?

Are you really blaming Liverpools current woes on a lack of investment?

Rafa seems unable to motivate his players for the lower profile teams.

With all due respect to crouch, kuyt, et al past liverpool players had heart, grit, determination, power, hunger, etc. Even after leaving Liverpool the likes of Toshack literally carried unfancied Swansea all the awy from whatever division to the Top.

The players who were on show at Luton are crap. In fact none of them even comes close to the Liverpool of yore.

I wish there was a way of getting rid of all of them overnight. How many of them would be able to feature in a Man****, Chelski, or Arse*** team for the Carling cup.

Get rid of the Garbage otherwise Man****'s 26 and Chelski's 50 years wait for a premier league will seem like a millisecond.

Fair play Luton, you should be in the 4th round of the FA Cup!

Whats happening regarding the administration? if you did get through though and had to play swansea/havant but went bust, does that mean we would take your place or in effect swansea/havant would be playing for a place in the 5th round.

Anyways, here is hoping that the game at Anfield is just as good as the one yesterday.

The fa cup - you gotta love it!

What a grim affair.

Even a full day's cooling-off hasn't helped me to overcome my disappointment over our poor display yesterday.

There is no question that the players we put out there should have been able to get the job done, so I'm not going to crucify Rafa for the result.

There comes a time when the players have to stand up and be counted, and deliver the goods.

Ratings:
=======
Itandje: 5. Let's use Reina for the replay

Finnan: 6. Why has he lost his skills?

Carragher: 7. Some dodgy clearancees

Hyypia: 6. Stupid yellow card to cover up his lack of pace

Riise: 4. Dreadful. Poor throws, poor strikes, poor defending. Poor chap.

Benayoun: 6. Unsettled, too much running about with no purpose.

Alonso: 5. The invisible man.

Lucas: 5. Poor, and I did lose count of how many times he gave up the ball. He's young though, so he'll come good.

Babel: 5. Good flashes, especially at the start, but then he too disappeared.

Crouch: 6. Decent strike for the goal, and some good chances.

Kuyt: 3. Very poor indeed.

Subs:

Voro: 5. A few good efforts, and lucky that Crouch was there to score

Masch: 7. Level-headed. I'd have brought him on for Lucas at HT.

El Zhar: 5. Not enough time to make any kind of impact.

Luton Town deserved their draw. Good luck to them on the replay. We need to sort it out if we hope to progress further.
