Chelsea showed the sort of battling qualities that was a key characteristic of Jose Mourinho's team.
Are Chelsea a good bet for the title?

I wonder when Chelsea fans will start to give Grant the credit he deserves?

--------------------

I gave him and still give him credit.

He lost his first game against Utd at Old trafford in difficult circumstances. He also had poor luck with some dubious decisions in that game. A wrongful sending off? Up to that point Chelsea was well in that game. A goal by Tevez in extra added time on added time? from a corner that never was? A dive by Saha in the second half for a pen?

Utd won the game controversially even when Chelsea was at rock bottom morale after losing their talismatic manager.

Grant then went on a unbeaten run. He steered Chelsea comfortably through the champions league group stages and knocked Liverpool out of the cup.

Again he lost to Arsenal at the Emirates when again some decisions going against. How did Eboue stay on the pitch after his nasty foot breaking challenge on Terry? Injuries mounting up and key players missing I thought Chelsea showed good fight in that game without any result.

Again this Christmas period Avram has steered Chelsea back into the title race. 7 points out of a possible 9 is good going. Last season under Jose with again key players missing we lost too many points over Christmas which cost us the title.

I give Grant all the credit he merits.

Avram Grant is saying Chelsea have taken 12 pts during the x-mas program, didnt they draw with Villa?

The original poster was not precise.

He was possibly referring to the season pre Roman when Ranieri steered Chelsea to 4th place. That again doesn't do his post much justice.

Chelsea did under Vialli management come 2nd and if Cassaraghi had not bowed out of football so disastrously I think Chelsea could have possibly won it that year. Cassaraghi was some striker of physical presence. Chelsea missed him severely for me.

What the poster was possibly referring to is that Liverpool although perceived by the media as a serious title challenger possibly only once since premier league history come close to winning it.....that was some time ago too!

Chelsea, Arsenal and Utd are now regarded as true title challengers whilst Liverpool are always looked upon now as 4th spot material. Some Liverpool fans can't handle the truth it seems!

Harsh on Fulham - their first half display was worth at least a point.

Ballack is the key for us in this crisis and it seems like he is finding his form once again. He is willing to to take more responsibility now and today he had a very good second half , ball distribution was excellent, something he has not been given a chance to do yet it happens to be one of his key strengths , if chelsea allow him to play his game then they have a fighting chance

i thought our 2nd half peformance was fantastic, we dint deserve to b a goal down at hlaf time, but yet agian SWP cant finish or put a decent final ball in. still dont like kalou but at least he scored, belleti made both goals, by putting two decent balls in the box something SWP cant do.

now we have to weeks to get our players back, whats pleasing to see over xmas is ballck n sheva look like there going to useful!! and i was very satisfied with alex n ben haim, 9 goals in four games, who needs drogba lol!!

I dont think Chelsea can win the league as the absence of Drogba, Essian, Mikel and Kalou for the African Cup together with the injuries to Terry and Lampard will hit them too hard, even if they sign some major players in January.
On the plus side, they will have their top players fit and fresher in Feb/ March and may have a good chance in the ECL/ FA Cup if the draw is kind to them.
I thought Ballack was their best player by a mile on Tuesday and its good to see him delivering at last. Watch him get injured now!

Chelsea still do not look convincing. Lucky decision against Newcastle and struggled against Villa. They had enough chances against Fulham, but without the penalty, which some refs may not have given, the game would have been a draw.

Hopefully Anelka will provide something more clinical up front.
