creative midfielder?

Premier League Newcastle United

most newcastle fans agree that the team has lacked a pacey, creative midfield player this season as we (understandably) sought to address our defensive problems in our pre-season signings.

now as January approaches, we are uncertain about funds being available and the difficulty in buying suitable players in January (ie tied into contracts, playing for current team, uncertainty about earopean football next season etc etc).

my question, therefore, is do we not already possess such a player who we should try in that position until the end of the season?

i'm not talking about Emre, who is inconsistent, or Barton, who is incarcerated(!) but Zog, who is left back.

of course it would take a leap of faith for sam to play Enrique regularly!! but for a couple of years now, newcastle fans have seen glimpses that zog might just turn into a fine central midfield player. with duff back on the left and Milner on the right, could the fast running, dribbling, passing and shooting abilities of charlie boy now be switched to the centre of midfield, where we so desperately need someone to link up play and drive us forward.

just a thought. yours?

N'zogbia is our only direct pacey threat and always causes problems and score occasional goals when in midfield, why not go for shorey and play zog on the left and go for giles barnes maybe from derby?

Can you exlain why Enrique wont get a game for SA. No one seems to know what the hell is going on with him.

When N'zogbia first signed he said that he would like to play through the middle so it would be worth a go, and that would allow us to give duff a go on the wing......

Big Sam has said all along that he will play enrique but he wants him to get settled first, which i guess there is an argument for. Personally i would like to see him playing more often but i'm not seeing him in training every day so i guess we'll have to trust BSA....

This method has worked very well for Arsene Wenger with players like Clichy, Fabregas, Flamini, etc etc.

We need a quality left back allowing Zog to play in his correct position, two competent centre halfs and a replacement for Owen/Martins/Viduka as none of these will play many games this season. Duff has so far lived up to his name and hopefully he will now start to play.
Mid table mediocrity beckons if Big Sham doesn't get his finger out.

He played canny well there for a bit of the pre-season game against Juve, any attacking oppertunity we had, he created. I'd love to see him play there.

Well, it's going to be difficult to get quality players during the window and if they are, they'll have to pay over the odds, like West Ham this time next year.A creative midfielder may be a bit of a luxury and if I was Big Sam, I'd be looking for a new centre half as a matter of priority.

I'd like to see hutton and mcfadden come in, and carr and owen go. owen is a liability and carr is getting on a bit. alan hutton is a great young right-back and, although he hasn't played well for everton, james mcfadden is a quality forward/attacking midfielder. i also reckon we should replace allardyce with alex mcleish, although he probably won't leave brum so soon after joining.

SA needs to sign some physical players. Barton has the potential to boss midfilds in the premiership, but I'd like to see more like him in each position. We need a big striker, who has proven himself in the English game, Dean Ashton would be brlliant, as would Crouch. Both score goals, and they give Owen someone to play off, like Martins; he's just not fit that often.
Then we need a big, strong cntre back. Someone with experience, like Cacapa, but someone who can actually play football. Sol Campbell or someone similar, Wes Brown??

Our number one signing should be Sven-Goran Eriksson, whilst top of my list to leave should be Sam Allardyce. Unfortunately whilst this is a dream, no amount of transfer signing can make an impact whilst the wrong manager is at the helm. It will just be more of NUFC's money down the drain.
