Six to watch in 2008

comment on the article

It has become something of a custom at this time of year for us to choose six cricketers we believe are worth keeping an eye on during the English season to come.

Our criteria is not to choose big names, but to look for players who are not yet the finished article but have loads of potential.

There are always three or four county prospects, at least one selection from the international teams due to tour England, and one from the England women's team.

You can read my colleague Jamie Lillywhite's selection for 2008 here: news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cri...

Why not tell us what you think of Jamie's choices - and nominate some players of your own.

Kyle Coetzer will star I feel along with Adil Rashid. Warwickshire bowler Naqi Tahir may star too after a handful of useful performances last year.

Definitely agree that Holly Colvin is one to watch in 2008. Her cricket isn't bad to watch either!!

Some of you guys disappoint me, practically every name mentioned is already an esablished player. Why not pick some names we havent heard of! The worst example is from the writer of that bbc piece. Dale Steyn has been ranked as high as third in the test bowling rankings and made his SA debut against England in 2004.

Kudos for those who picked Finn and Coetzer though, they'd be two of my picks. Jordans only played a few games but its obvious he'll be a star. Du Plessis the Kolpak will get plenty of runs for Lancs. Wakeley has a lot of potential for Northants.

Denly is pure class, Rashid looks like a good prospect, Sam Northeast of Kent looks good for a future England spot, also Dan Redfern of Derbyshire, along with James Harris(Glamorgan) and Chris Jordan(Surrey).

I do feel that there is a lack a real talent at the moment in the English County Championship but here are my six to watch along with International players:
Dawson of Hampshire looks a good young spinner who can also bat.
Redfern of Derbyshire looks a good young batsman.
Godleman of Middlesex Talented opening batsman.
Woakes of Warwickshire looks a very promising young fast bowler.
Tim Southee of New zealand is a star of the future with the ball and can hit the ball along way with the bat.
J-P Duminy of South Africa looks a class act witht the bat.
