Is Utd's chairman having a giggle?

I'm a rangers fan and i know we have no (thank god) interest in Robson, though i know Celtic do.

£1.25 million for a player like Robson is what im reading today in that celtic are offering for him. Yet your chairman said that isnt what he values him at, and that its much more.

Firstly, how is he rated higher than 700k?.

Secondly, hes 28, he has NO future if he moves onto another club other than step downs.

and last, He isnt in any shape or form a comparisson to other scottish talent being bought for the millions, Naismith, Whittaker, Brown etc etc.

Without (im hoping) taking this as an insult, can utd fans give there thoughts on this?

Come on he's worth more than £700k anyway. He's captain at the 4th best team in the country, in the Scotland squad and in the best form of his career at the moment. If you've ever watched Robson you'll know he either scores, sets up or is involved in just about every goal Utd score. Outwith Nakamura he's got the best left foot in Scotland, but unlike Nakamura he can actually take players on.

Celtic paid Hearts £1.1m for a 29yr old Hartley. Hearts were desperate to sell, he wasn't their best player or their captain and (in my opinion) Robson is a better all round player than Hartley.

As a United supporter I wouldn't want to see us lose our captain, but every player has his price and I wouldn't want Robson to leave Tannadice for anything less than £1.75m

Hartley is a far better midfielder than Robson, im sorry. He can be played in almost every role that isnt up front, and played in many more games which were a higher standard than the old firm.

Would be devestating for United if Robson was to leave for the Celtic reserves (we all know that's his ultimate destination considering that's Celtic's strongest area). Clearly the lure of being paid at least double his current wage, will compensate his small chance of earning more caps evapourating completely.

i think if robson went to celtic hes either going to replace naka or surely hes going to sit in the reserves at celtic park.

He's possibley better off heading down to the championship and plying his trade there until either the old firm come calling or he gets picked up in the epl.

It's about time other spl clubs grew a set and started getting more money from the old firm when selling players.

They will then have more money and the league will get more competitive.

Some interesting comments here, but to get down to the crux of the initial point, YES Barry Robson is worth £1.2million...if not a bit more. We have to look at who we get to replace him...and at what cost. That money unfortunately buys you very little these days.
He is Uniteds captain. He is our top scorer and he is in the Scotland squad. You only have to look at the value Celtic and Rangers put on players that are wanting to move on (Celtics keeper springs to mind where I believe £10million has been touted...now THAT is a joke).

Thats the point, the teams are asking for more money, and if the OF really want the players then they will pay it. Look at Hibs, they got £4million for Brown, Killie stuck to thier guns and got a decent price for Naismith, we got a good price for Mark Wilson.

Lets be honest, the only reason the OF buys most of the players they do from other SPL clubs is so that the other teams cannot have them!!

I do not think it is really to stop other teams getting those players at all. The reason I feel that they go for players at Dundee Utd, Kilmarnock, Hibs etc....is that it is only Scottish clubs that they can get value for money! If Robson, or other players, were in England or Europe, the transfer fee would be much, much higher!
So again I say...£1.25million is very good value...and very good business from their point of view.

we didn't get a decent price for Wilson, not if you take in to consideration his age and prospect, fair enough before you start your whole but he could have left for nothing, he did sign again so utd got something
