For the past couple of weeks, there have been a GROWING number of two footed tackles in the premiership. Why is that?? This wasnt a problem at the beginning of the seaon. What is changing in the league? Are the players getting too fast to catch or too technical to get the ball back, oppositon players have to resort to these kind of tackles?

So if someone breaks an ankle or out for months it is ok ,because he got the ball think your still in the dark ages. A two footed challenge wether he gets the ball or not is and should be a red card.

The issue is irrelevant - What people should be concerning themselves with is the amount of injuries being picked up by players. I've seen more fractures and breaks in bones from feet, previously not known to human science, than ever before.

Can you remember any of these being caused by two footed jumped tackles? I can't. Maybe a slide into Rooney - But the point is that something is causing these injuries wether it be the daily training, the footwear, the ball - whatever, but It's not an escalation of hard tackles. Anyone who ever watched Graham Souness play will recall tackling was more a game of Russian Roulette with some people - but there weren't half the injuries we have now.

Who cares about bringing in further legislation around a rule which already deals quite effectively with the phenomena of 2 footed tackles? What are you people?? The Labour government?

I agree with shaft, there is already sufficient discretion within the rules for referees to instantly punish any tackle he deems dangerous or malicious with a red card.

Thus, the perpertuators' team is a man down, the 'victims' team has a man advantage and the incident has been dealt with. Why would you need any further action? As far as I can see the worst tackles have been rightly punished at the time.

Worrying that this recent trend is though, its down to the individual players to collectively stamp it out (no pun intended). No doubt in my mind that if these tackles were used on the training ground they would result in an instant punch-up, so why then would you transfer them to an actual game. If a player in my team was sent off for such a tackle I know he would be sheepishly explaining his actions to 10 of his disgruntled team mates in the dressing room after.

Also football players should be banned wearing blades because they cause major injuries.

Man Utd have banned them from training and from games so why dont other teams ban them.

I don’t think it is a sudden influx of the two footed tackle, this type of tackle has been growing for some time, I think it is another case of the media highlighting the tackle and this having an influence on referees, some time back we had a rash of stamping incidents (Dicks, Shearer spring to mind) which were highlighted by the media and if you will excuse the pun all of a sudden refs started to “stamp” it out. To me its just another case showing how out of touch Refs are in that they are only reacting to media coverage. As for the likes of Poll calling for tougher punishment I think that a 3 match ban is sufficient as long as referees do their jobs and send players off when they see this type of tackle.
As an interesting aside what do people think of Andy Grays comments that the Reading players tackle wasn’t that bad as his feet were only just off the ground? Personally I think he has now lost all credibility as an ex player commenting of the game and is now just another media personality looking for headlines when it suits, I find quiet often he contradicts himself depending on the player/teams position on his list of favourites.

I think If players are stupid enough to jump into a tackle 2-footed then they deserve more than just a red card. Why do people do it? It's no accdent because it takes more effort to jump into a tackle than not to. They know what they're doing and They know they're gonna get sent off, we see it every week. I just can't understand why they'll do it steam

Straight red card for those tackles... ending a players career is the likely outcome if they're not 'stamped' out!!

I see gordon taylor is worried about the influx of 2 footed tackles in the game. I tell you what, Gordon...

DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!

It's the useless monkeys at the FA who hide behind the stupid rule that they can't punish a player who has already been booked who are the problem. The same Luddites who won't look at video replays to punish the cheats who ruin the game for everyone by diving for penalties or to get fellow players sent off. How does he expect players to have respect for one another when there is all this going on unopposed?!
