Capello's Squad

England

From looking at the forums today, and over the last week or so, I've become increasingly confused as to why so many people seem persistant as to guessing what Fabio Capello's starting 11 for the English national team will be. By doing this - people are overlooking formations, form, and the opposition England would play against - as the same formation will not work against every team in the world (as it leads to predictability - a weak point of England in the last few years).

Therefore, I am writing this to ask football fans out not to give me their prefered starting 11, but rather their prefered squad of 22 English players - covering all positions. It's not limited to 2 players in each position, instead it should allow for different formations, covering each position at least once.

Injuries permitting, my squad would be:
Chris Kirkland, Rob Green, David James
Glen Johnson, Rio Ferdinand, Jonathan Woodgate, Ashley Cole, Micah Richards, Ledley Kind, Matt Taylor
Aaron Lennon, Ashley Young, Steven Gerrard, Gareth Barry, Michael Johnson, Joe Cole, Jermaine Pennant
Wayne Rooney, Andy Johnson, Dean Ashton, Peter Crouch, Gabbi Agbonlahor

Now, who would you choose?...

Again people forget the contribution Beckham made. We were woeful before he was recalled and he has the only player that showed some heart. Before we was recalled, people weren't even talking about a chance.

Now, does that mean that Beckham should get a place just because of what he was? No, of course not, but I think Capello will make the choice that's best for the team and we know he doesn't mind upsetting big name players.

These people being mentioned as a replacement aren't currently as good as Beckham. That's not my opinion, that' fact. Euro 2008 qualifiers showed we had nobody else that could equal or better the performance Beckham gave. SWP? Don't make me laugh. Not nearly consistent enough and that's likely to do with how often he gets in the Chelsea starting 11. Lennon? What has he done for England and even for his club?. Gerrard? Yeah, he was erm, not so good either.

Lay off Beckham until something better comes along.

Why are people still talking about bringing Beckham back into the squad, forget his 100 caps we need to build for 2010 now and he was not good enough for the european cup, come on start where we mean to carry on and forget the has beens, he left Uk for pastures greener in *Italy* and USA he should stay there.

Really Maverick? Last time I checked Real Madrid were based in Madrid...the capital of Spain not Italy.
It does remind me of the old Beckham joke about him learning Italian before heading off to Madrid... laugh

I am not a Beckham lover or hater but he was replaced in Madrids final game coz he got injured, please lets stick to the facts.

-------------------------------------------

He was replaced in Madrid's final game while they were losing 1-0. They won 3-1 when he was off the pitch. The reason for his substitution is not important, tactical or injury. I was responding to the guy who said that 'Beckham saved Capello's bacon'. This is not true. if anything, Capello reinvigorated David Beckham. For all that had happened prior to that, Real could have lost the league that night and Reyes won them the title in that key game.

Robinson, Carson, Kirkland

Johnson, Neville, Bridge, Cole, Ferdinand, Terry, Richards

Bentley, Wright-Phillips, Gerrard, Hargreaves, Cole.J, Osman, Lampard, Young

Crouch, Rooney, Owen, Agbonlahor, Heskey

Osman is one of a few technically good central midfielders in england. can pass the ball, can score and maintain discipline in the centre... a bit of a poor mans scholes but the type of player england sorely miss.

Beckham should not play. We need to build for 2010 and as beckham will never play in 2010 he should not play now. Bently to play on the wing.

When will people understand that Garfeth Barry is not a defensive midfielder! Just ask any Villa fan, ReoKoker plays that role for Villa and Barry plays attacking.
When Barry was playing well for England he was as a midfield two with gerrard, both taking a range of roles both defensive and attacking.
Then the muppet that is Mr Mclaren like many people on here believe he is a defensive midfielder and play him at the foot of a diamond.
Most Villa fans would agree that if you want a defensive midfielder then pick Hargreaves or dare I say it even ReoKoker but if you want a competent all round midfielder which will add to squad depth then pick Barry.

Also regarding Beckham, if you ask me only himself and Crouch after the croatia game actually deserve a start next month!

Beckham and his pal Sven the Muppett have done absolutley nothing for England and because of them, we are in this sorry state of affairs to stoop so low as to have anything but an Englishman managing our National team !
To move forward with what we have been given, then we need to forget about Beckham and anyone remotely involved in our World Cup team !
To think that Beckham may get 100 caps is beyond my comprehension when he is not fit to tie the shoe laces of Bobby Charlton, and those few other elite players that made the Century for England.
Basically for him to gain 100 Caps means that the standard of our football has gone backwards !

Either the standard of our football has gone backwards, or more likely, the FA along with the beautiful game is rapidly becoming a glorified media circus.

I'd like to think it's the latter. If not - we're in more trouble than we thought.
