2 Horse Race?

Premier League Arsenal Chelsea Liverpool Manchester United
comment on the article

Well what can I say?

Manchester United leave OT with a very lucky win today...but hey...I'm not being bias, the Gooners, you could say, were even luckier to escape the spuds without defeat...

...My point? the sign of champions. As the season has gone on, we have seen that even when arsenal and man utd are playing poorly, they are able to grind out results, something the scouse and to a certain extent, chelski, have failed to do this season.

Now i know that the chavs dominated Blackburn today in a potentially valueble win, but as the end of the year aproaches, i am still beginning to question their championship credentials. they have far too many injuries, and although they have a strong squad, 4 key players will be heading off to the ACON next year, and by the end of the tournament, i do think arsenal and utd will have breathing space between themselves and the rest of the pack.

In my opinion, liverpool are not yet genuine contenders, and for the last decade barring one season, i dont think they were ever serious title contenders (que some serious abuse). i'm sorry to say it to the kop, but as much as i would love liverpool to finish above utd and chelski, i dont see it happening, and i dont see you winning the league under benitez, unless he starts key players regularly, and spends money corectly in the market, something i dont think he will ever do...

People are saying that the christmas period is the toughest and most important part of the season. I disagree. I believe that this season, teams will be hurt by the ACON, and if arsenal are to get through this period and still remain top of the league, then who will bet against us? I wouldn't (but then again I ain't a gamblin' man)

Opinions?

He does go missing in big games though but who cares, that's only 18 of 114 points to be won.

---------------------------------------------

With the greatest respect, I think thats rubbish. What big games are you judging this by? The fact he hasn't scored in every game against Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea? The FA Cup final and the CL semi finals? Did any Man Utd player do well in those three games in 2007? I could put the same criteria against Steven Gerrard- when was the last time he scored in a league game against man Utd? And yet Gerrard has also scored in a Champions League final, a UEFA Cup final and a League cup final against man Utd. People used to the say the same thing about Thierry Henry- and then he scored the winner against Brazil in a World cup quarter final.

Players can't score in every game, however good they are! And 10/10 performances from ANY player are rare. if the criteria of a 'big game' is just 2 or 3 major games each season, then the odds of the star man playing brilliantly in all of those games is low. I find the idea that Cristiano Ronaldo isn't a big game player laughable. Did you see him knock England out of the World Cup last year? You ever see him bottle it like our lads do? He played in a European Championship semi final and final at 19. He got to the World Cup semi finals last year. none of our players has ever got anywhere near that. I think Ronaldo, along with Henry at his peak, is closest to having everything in his locker that I've seen from a player in the Premiership. I just find it hilarious that people think he can't handle a big game. When you think about it, its nonsense. Even Kaka couldn't score against Liverpool in the CL final last season, or against Celtic earlier this one.

With the greatest respect, I don't.

Maybe goes missing is too harsh - it's just a saying though.

For someone of his class (and we all know he's got it) maybe he just gets a touch apprehensive in the majority of his 'big' games and isn't as effective as we all know he could be.

His mere presence helps the team and keeps the opposition 'honest' though. But he hasn't lived up to expectations yet on high pressure days.

He's still very young so I wouldn't count on it continuing though sadface

Arsenal will probably lose Toure, Adebayor and Eboue - all 3 play regularly this yr. Lets see how well they cope.

----------------------

Togo didn't qualify, so Adebayor won't be going to Ghana. I'm not worried about Eboue going but am concerned at the side minus King Kolo. Centre-back is one area I think Arsene may want to strengthen come January.

I fully expect it to be between Arsenal and ManUre this season. Liverpool don't have the staying power and Chelsea will struggle without Drogba's goals.

To be honest, that's a very fair comment. I tip Man U to win the league, with Arsenal coming second. Man U's squad is so strong, not just their first team and just can't see past them, although, how many people have Arsenal shocked this season?

What about Shevchenko getting a first team run when Drogba's away and us seeing his real class and goals? We know he's capable of it, he's just not been giving a fair shot. Liverpool just can't seem to do it against Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal. Maybe next season?

My Prediction of top 10:

Man U
Arsenal
Chelsea
Liverpool
Man City
Everton
Tottenham
Aston Villa
Portsmouth
Newcastle

"Here coming from a person that thinks a debate needs a winner. I think that goes to show how childish you are."

That's a very liberal attitude. And a narrow minded one too ok

And just because I call you a child, which you blatantly are, doesn't mean you can use the same retort. Use a bit of imagination if you have any ok

"Which games would that be, or are you basing this on the entire season?"

I said 'game', not 'games', and it was against Sheffield United.

"Don't forget that Chelsea had to play Essien and Ferriera together as centre backs in some games; Essien played quite a few games in the middle of the defence."

Given that they sold two quality centre-backs in Gallas and Huth, my sympathy is limited. Besides, Ferriera is a defender - do I have to count the times Heinze, Neville, Brown and Silvestre had to switch position? Midfielders Fletcher and Richardson had to play full-back. John O'shea played defence, midfield, striker and in goal.
