i lovbe the fact we're getting youth in the spurs squad, and there's a nice balance between youth beight brought in and also coming through the youth system. That said, of all the money we spent in the summer and in the past i cant really recall in the last season and a half a player we've brought in deliberately to better their acquired position. kaboul.....better than....bale....he was 17, great now, but was bought for the future....bent....4th striker. i do appreciate that we're not a CL team and that attracting the best in the business can be very difficult but 5 years ago we had 'a great youth setup' and now look at us.....

some might say i'm a bit harsh on my comments but as 31 year spurs fan and certainly in recent years i'm tired of hearing how great we're gonna be in the future....40m in any clubs eyes is alot to shell out on the future, when the present, at times, is bloody awful!

soapbox now dismounted smiley

the lad sounds like a decent prospect - interested to see he plays on the right mainly, so he's cover for Chimbonda? mind you, you can't expect Mr Loyal to be around come the summer necessarily, so maybe Gunter is being primed for next season?

he should settle fine seeing as he knows Bale, and it's handy that he's two-footed.

i'm all for buying youth - but the board must realise that a, you do also need experience to win anything, and b, that a player's value only goes up if playing well (usually in a winning team), so there's no guarantee of making a buck out of him.

looking forward to seeing him in action... let's give him time and not judge him on the first mistake...

all in all, a promising signing.

Yet again, Spurs spend big money on an unproven youngster playing at a lower level.

Why don't they take a leaf out of Man City's book. Instead of dishing out millions, why don't they spend the money on improving their academy system itself. A couple of million spent on the academy and City have already produced players probably worth a combined amount of £50m. I don't understand why such few clubs seem to be able to produce good players themselves

Also, when the academy have brought players in from other clubs, they have been much younger and a long way from first team football - this is the case with SWP, Barton and Richards.

I like the fact we're buying youngsters in but we need a few more experienced players Davids really helped the team along when he was here, the thing that annoys me is it's a clear case of the board looking to make a profit again

Gunter is a ver average player, IMO in my eyes not the best full back at City currently.

4M you are having a laugh? You are getting ripped off!

Overated massively, Most Cardiff fans also sure this view.

4M good deal for us!

You've got to love some of the comments floating around so far! Gunter really is looking like the real deal, having seen him numerous times for CCFC and Wales, so £4,000,000 (Which is the fee with all of the add ons included) will seem like a snip.

Yes he's another 'prospect' at Spurs but who gives a flying? Granted some have never materialised, but Chris Gunter is a class act and will be one of the best full backs in the whole of the Premier League.

CescPistols, you need to wake up and start supporting a British team, not a team based in London but full of foreign players. At least Spurs are buying the best of British and investing in the National teams future. What are the Gooners doing? Oh I forgot, Almunia will qualify to play for England soon.........

You're top of the league and looked ordinary against Spurs. Jamie O'Hara a quality British talent played Fabregas off the park. All it takes is a bit of investment in British youth and it will pay off.

are you having a laugh....not the best full back....he's 18 for god sake and he's not 4m yet, you're getting about a mil and a half i think then depending on appearances and int'l games you'll get more dribs and drabs. that my old son is how alot of transfers work....darren bent for instance has only cost us about 10m so far, it's all on goals and appearances that bump his fee upwards....stop reading the tabloids dear boy!

Good luck to Gunter he was a great player too support. Is he worth 3million right now, 3million seems fair. will he be worth 10million by the time he is 20.. at least.

He seems a kid eager to learn and progress in football and thats the kind of attitude you need. Im sure Ramos and the Tottenham team will develop this lad into such a talent. I fancy him to keep Bale out the squad in years to come.
Well done Chris Gunter.

i agree with some of the comments above in that he is being primed for next season when it seems chimbonda will leave for man utd or chelsea.
this kid looks good, but better than bale? no chance. I can see gunter and bale playing together for some time to come though
