Motogp to follow F1 & ban Traction Control.

i just read on autosport that Carmelo Ezpeleta, motogp's equivalent of Berni, is thinking of banning traction control and introduce ECU. Considering how the rise of intensified electronic use has dramatically changed motogp races, do you think that the likes of stoner, pedro, and the new gradguates from 250 will find it harder without it. The oldschools, like Rossi, are pushing to ban t.c. I myself would like to see t.c. out of the sport, but i think, unlike F1, it would be harder to ban T.C. from motogp. Ducati, for example, will fight hard to keep t.c. Of all the teams Ducati are very invested in electronics to mange their engine. They were able to achieve top speed and acceleration dominance this year because of their ingenious integration of electronics with their desmodromic valve system. Thus, i don't think they would welcome the introusion of the ECU. I hope Carmelo prevails, or at leas is serious about it.

Bernie Ecclestone has an equivalent? I think not. There’s only one Bernie and we should all be grateful.

I once saw an interview with Valentino Rossi, when asked about TC he just held up his right wrist and said "I 'ave all the traction control right here"

Spot on!

I think, if we are going to reward riders for their skill and race craft, then i don't know why we should allow traction control to help them. But, motogp is also manufacturars competition so traction control is fair game in that context. I believe that we just have to accept the fact that the machine will have more impact as we go forward.

on a separate note; i'm happy there are sill some motogp fans on this board. After the motorsports boards were consolidated the minor sports were pushed out by F1 and hami euphoria. If you are a motogp fan, please, start posting.

Agree, TC should be banned, it has made the bikes 'too easy' to ride. It should be hard to master one of those bikes. Remember the brutal 500cc 2-strokes, now they were hard to ride by even the best.

Well in this weeks MCN the Moto Gp Champion of 2007 says he is in favour of banning traction control, so maybe it will happen.

I personally don't want to see the grid quite like it was when I first started watching in the early 1980s - full of half cripples.

TC banned? thank whoever is in charge for that. A steering wheel, brakes, clutch, throttle and correctly set up suspension, what else should a racing driver need to extract the best from any type of car, delete steering wheel add handlebars for bikes. Good enough for Moss, Brabham, McLaren, Clark,Hailwood, Duke, Jefferies and so on The Names who used to pack Oulton, Brands, Silverstone, Mallory, Goodwood and those circuits in other countries, before they were altered out of recognition. As one LeMans winning driver remarked recently 'put the straight back, aint any safer now, you could floor it, sit back have a good look around', at 200 plus in a 917!!

Interesting topic KLOTNEWS.

My personal preference is no TC. I want to see riders pushed to the limit, and TC seems to level the playing field too much.

But what will it really achieve. I disagree that the 'older' riders will be better suited to non-TC machinery. So many of the younger riders grew up on dirt. They are very comfortable racing and steering via the throttle and rear tyre, especially with the user-friendly engines nowadays.

Also, there was much debate this year on 606 regarding lack of closeness of the racing. Will removing TC address that issue? I don't think so. Remember Mick Doohan disappearing into the distance in the non-TC days!

Fewer riders will be capable of riding at the front. Even fewer riders will be able to handle it when their tyres go off, which seemed to be an issue in the non-TC days. As SCOTTY says, we would run a greater risk of a field managing injuries all season.

So yep, I'd like to see TC go the way of the dodo but only because it pushes riders further and we see their talent, not the engineers.

[I would really like to say let's bring back the two-strokes but the young guys here will think I'm an old-timer who can't get past the "good-old-days"] - D'Oh - Did I type that out loud or just think it! doh

I'd like to see it removed as well, plus launch control while they're at it. If you're a good enough rider all the traction control you need is in your right wrist (© Valentino Rossi and others) ......

It may have slipped my aged brain, but just exactly who came up from dirt bikes into the GP ranks out of the current crop ......?? AFAIK even guys like Hayden have always been pretty much tarmac racers, even though they like to use off-road bikes for training purposes.

Totally agree - bring back the proper Mulsanne straight.
...And yes - ban traction control from all Motorsports. It's the Rider\Driver that keeps the Bike\car on the track, not a load of electronics. Where is the skill in that!
