I Do love the optimism lads, that feeling that this could be the week that Robbie finally shakes off the shackles and becomes the goalscorer we all remember.

But....

That guy doesn't exist anymore - he hasn't for a long time, since he first left Liverpool around 7 years ago.

The truth is that towards the end of his first spell at anfield (when he WAS world class) he did his cruciate ligament and that was that, he was poor on his return to Liverpools first XI (and subsequently lost his place to Owen & Heskey) which is why they sold him to Leeds who themselves weren't too impressed so they let him go to Man City.

Liverpool Re-signing him can only be called an act of sentimentality by a mangaer desperate for a PR boost.

The truth is if you want an honest assesment of Fowler talk to Man City or (if you have to) Leeds fans not Liverpool fans blinkered by past glories.

They will tell you - as I am about to the truth about Robert Bernard Fowler

HIS LEGS ARE COMPLETELY GONE

I'm not saying he doesn't want to do well or that he's crap it's just his mind is 2 yards quicker than his body & he cant adapt to this.

All those who queued for their 'Fowler' or 'God' shirts were ignoring (or being swept up in hyperbole - thanks Echo) the facts & evidence that were laid out in front of you that the guy hasn't performed for the best part of a decade.

I would love to be proven wrong but I get the impression on here that many people seem to think brilliance is just around the corner where as the truth is there about a 1 in 10 chance of improvement.

Sadly I think I agree with you, (re- Fowler) Would love to see him up there for you guys but I think both him a JFH are suffering regular injuries at this stage of their career which appears to be hampering them ever regaining the form they once had.

Have to admit was a bit suprised when you got Sinclair in and JFH.

Think mostly with the strikers though given both are at the same stage of their careers, and are lacking some of the qualities these days that seperated them from the rest.

Potentially like seems to be the main problem identifies here its the old injury nutshell

Voronin - Re my original article

I personally don't think Fowler has been the same since he did his cruciate the first time he was at Liverpool.

Before that he was brilliant but since i think his career has been average at best.

I think with Robbie he is at that point in his career and sadly he has been for a while where we very occasionally see those flashes of brilliance.
He won't do anything for weeks/months due to injury and will then score a hat-trick.
Unfortunately with each passing season, even the flashes of brilliance are getting rarer and rarer.

What a player he was though in his youth!!!

Fowler was injured because of a hard tackle in training - after the rotten luck he's had with injuries throughout his career, I'd probably have battered the tackler if i were him! What a silly sod to do such a thing when we're low on strikers and when he's just rehabilitating after a bad injury!

Isn't that just typical of British football? They can't have a technically led training session. They have to get "stuck in" and injure their own team mates.

Poor old Fowler. I have to say im not sure if hes fully focused, he owns half of mersyside/manchester's property with rednapp! I think hes got a couple of goals left in him, but the end is near.
