There are similarities between Flip and Tim. Flip's nickname was "Poo", and I'm sure I heard Tim being called something similar quite regularly... smiley

KoB with reference to "Poo" is that why he was also sometimes described as the "dangerous floater" in tennis draws?

Tennis hacker, Are you up for the most Tennis illiterate on this board.? Henman only made 2 Stella Artois finals did he?
Get real.
Neither of them won a Slam but Henman had by far a more successful and consistent career by a long way.
Both won 11 singles titles each. But Henman reached 6 grand slam semis.
I think however that M.P would have surely beaten Sampras at Wimbledon in 1999 1/4 final. A very good player. But his serve made him

sorry sps but in the great scheme of things six SF appearances amount to diddly-squat.

Having said that Henman was unlucky not to reach one grand slam final but that's about as far as it goes.

Coming back to Philippousis I can't help feeling that like Ivanisavic he should have had one Wimbledon title in him. Injuries may have got in his way but my guess is he'll go down in tennis history as an under achiever.

Thats sport.
Ifs , buts and maybes. We could talk about that until the end of time . But it changes nothing.
Chances come and chances go. And when chances come they have to be taken and if they are not we are always left wondering about what might have been.

Henman was certainly the more consistent player but never really had a killer weapon to get him a GS.
Now with Scud's serve, and a fast Wimby court, things might have been very different

I was never a huge Philippoussis fan, but he did take part in some great matches, especially at Wimbledon. His win over Agassi in '03 was fantastic (although I was gutted being an fan of the American) as was his run in '99 when he was unlucky against Pistol Pete.

But the Aussie was often ugly to watch. He was inconsistant in rallies, usually making many unforced errors, his volleys were often erratic and his booming serves simply boring at times, it has to be said. It's a shame injury has prevented him achieving more in recent years, but generally I'm not going to miss him much. Since '04 he's basically played part time anyway.

Oh, and Henman's career was a lot more fruitful, in my opinion.

Not many fond memories. I will always clump him with the big servers of his day - Ivanisevic, Rusedski, Kraijek, who could all trouble Sampras.
