BW Week 1: Murray def. Wawrinka (F)British Tennis by Ruggers (U3472595) 19 December 2007 The Murray brothers kick-started their 2008 campaign in Doha and there was title success for Andy. Andy Murray [3], Men's Singles Andy Murray claimed the fourth title of his career in Doha, beating Swiss No. 2 Stanislas Wawrinka. It is an excellent start to the year. He's got some wins under his belt going into the Australian Open, will now move back into the top 10, has bageled the lower-ranked opponents; and fears on how he'll cope without Gilbert have been eased.R1: Rochus 6-0 6-2 R2: Schuettler 1-6 6-0 6-1 QF: Johansson 7-6(4) 6-0 SF: Davydenko [1] 6-4 6-3 F: Wawrinka 6-4 4-6 6-2 The final was more gritty rather than spectacular, the first set featuring over 40 unforced errors between the two players. Murray's first serve percentage was low, floating just over the 50% mark. After taking the first set Murray was holding serve comfortably for the majority of the second with consecutive love service games. But he was broken at 5-4 to send the match into a third set. He broke immediately, raised his level and held firm to win the match. Murray/Mirnyi, Men's Doubles Jamie Murray and new partner former World No. 1 Max Mirnyi fell out disappointingly in the second round to the South African pairing of Moodie/Coetzee. This partnership has potential, with Stretch's flair at the net being supported with the Beast's powerful serve. However it is still to be seen how well they shall fare on tour. Andy Murray partnered with Ross Hutchins (tipped to be be part of the Davis Cup team in February) but fell at the first hurdle to top-seeds Nestor/Zimonjic.R1: Cermak/Dlouhy [3] 7-6(6) 6-2 QF: Moodie/Coetzee 4-6 5-7 Links: Order of Play: tinyurl.com/2bwkee Singles Draw: tinyurl.com/ywnnug Doubles Draw: tinyurl.com/3cosdd Live Scoring: tinyurl.com/32q48z Live Streaming: tinyurl.com/2ymeza British Eurosport will be providing live coverage of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open. nottins (U1220860) posted Jan 7, 2008 So you admit Murray has a better GS record than Ancic at the start of his career ? But you're clutching at straws with your remark about the Aus open and rankings ? I was under the impression Murray was ranked 9th ? Baghdatis, 16th and Ancic 85th ?
