"However, 2009 in South Africa is a burning ambition, so when Warren asked me to join up with Wales it seemed like the opening I needed to get to international level."

Why do Wales need someone who is just interested in furthering their personal ambitions. One quote he wishes he were part of the England set up the next Wales. Welsh Rugby has far too many merceneries already!

As an Englishman what matters most is that Edwards is on the Lions tour. We need a Jim Telfer like figure who can walk round the changing room and get the boys so psyched up they would kill their own mothers. Edwards would be the best man to do this.

If the Wales job gets him to South Africa then so be it.

Worst case scenario we are left with an Irish Lions coach who appoints a weak leader in O’Driscoll.

Save the Lions and let Edwards go to Wales!

Maybe I am missing the point here but for me there is a fundamental point of coach v manager...

BA is the head coach - which in real terms means team manager - the person where the buck stops- the person who says who is in and who is out, someone who should not get too close to any individual player. Sometimes a lonely position, and the incumbant needs a steel and ruthlessness to suceed. On the contray a coach is someone that forges close working relationships with the players, who is their sounding board, motivator, respected criticiser, and even older brother on occasions - Skills which are a million miles away from those of a team manager. I think BA is a good coach, but as team manager, I am not so sure...which is why i am surprised about all the talk of SE taking over as head coach for England.. his coaching prowess is second to none, highly respected and highly sought after, but he has not managed a team yet, and until he does, he should not be considered as head coach for England..which is why the Saxons may be the best option from a RFU perspective - lets see how he does. Personally i think he will flourish - he appears to have that hard edge to go with his natural flair to make him a very good prospect.

I don't think that coaching Wales and being English will be a problem for Edwards as he represented GB at Rugby League for most of his career.
I think the decision to carry on aswas is not right . I still expect some changes of role and additions over the coming weeks.

If Gerald Davies has a word with Edwards and tips him the wink for a role with the Lions I am sure Edwards will stay with England as the Lions seems to be a key goal for him.
If not I believe he thinks a key role in Wales is better route to showing his international credentials .
A lot of pressure is building on the shoulders of a man who has only really coached one great club . Expectation can be too high some times.

Great to see that Shaun is in demand, but can't you find a better photo of him.

Shaun Edwards is a class act. If I was England I would offer him any post. I understand he can't do a full time role because of his lad...good for him.
Anyway as a Welshman..I would have Edwards and Gatland together in any way shape or form. The sooner the better.

Shaun Edward was an amazing rugby league player back in his day and now he is probably the best number 2 i have ever seen in the world of club rugby.

Would change be a good thing, i'm not so sure myself but if there is 1 person tht can adapt to change then it would have 2 be him.

good luck Shaun in which ever route you decide to take.

I admit to missing Shaun over the last ten years or so. To me there is only one answer to his dilemma and that is to go where he is needed most....WIGAN

why doesn't england just do the sensible thing and offer him a position for the full team? The fact we are only offering him the saxons seems to be a bit of a kick in the teeth. The guy is clearly someone we need in the full team...I get the impression he is waiting for us to realise this...

Lets be honest if Geech gets the lions job edwards will be on board Geeech clearly has no problems with edwards helping wales out maybe he knows that the lions job is his and wants edwards to get used to test match rugby as well as the club game?
