FUTSAL - The answer to England's Problems.

Not enough investment in grass roots football?

You are having a laugh!! I'm sick and tired of people thinking that if you throw enough money at something the end product will inevitably get better.

If Brazil invested half of the money we throw at football then they would be unstoppable.

So why have they got it right and why have we got it so terribly wrong?

The answer - FUTEBOL DE SALAO (FUTSAL)

Forget open grassy fields, forget expensive equipment. All you need is a football and a good coach.

Never in a million years would you see young Brazilian kids playing football on what are near enough full size pitches. A football coach in Brazil would never have 7,8,9 year old running round a pitch exhausted after 10 minutes so that any technique or skill the kids may have totally goes out of the window.

The answer is to have younger kids playing futsal, played with a smaller ball on a smaller court (doesn't even have to be a pitch), so that they learn ball skills and control from an early age. Then when they are phisically strong enough to move onto a larger pitch, they already have the technique down. The transition then to a larger pitch with a larger ball is made much easier.

Please FA.... take a leaf out of Brazil's book and get the kids playing Futsal. In schools!!!!! Brazilians are fantastic at organising inter-school tournaments, go to them for advice.

everyone more or less have made good points, especially about playing on a smaller pitch - therefor having to think alot quicker & you see more of the ball. but for me, the english mentality is not hungry enough! for other counries, its like either we do this, or live in poverry for the rest of our lives. we have it good here & we take many things for granted. why do you think in general so many foreigners are over here? jobs that we turn our noses at, others would do gladly. & now the computer games culture is here, kids are playing football less & less. im 30, & when i was a wee lad i had no time for breakfast, lunch or dinner (so it seemed), football was on my mind 24/7. is this the case for our youngsters???

having more available pitches at a decent price would help. i hear in brazil you can play football all through the night! i was told that in germany there's a shopping mail that has pitches on the roof - so the kids can play while the parents do the shopping. look at that! the english mentality has to change, otherwise we will be 10yrs behind other countries - we are already 5yrs behind!

an example of the english mentality - before a tournement "englands gunna win - come on england etc..." not "give us 100% boys, do your best etc..." we think we have the divine right to everything. hopefully, capello will set the pace for others to follow, & if futsul is intruduced to the max then all the better for english football. its high time we look towards others & see what formulas they use & imply that to the english game.

another thing about the english mentality - the comfort zone!

if english players are "world class" why dont other clubs in europe bid for these so called world class players? 1 the money - to damn expensive. but most importantly, english players dont want to leave england! if they left, they would better themselves as a footballer surely!?!?

look at Ronaldo's CV - the dutch league, italian league, spain & italy again. when he has grand children he can show them this, & for me thats what its all about. ok i can understand about playing for your child hood club etc, but to better yourself surely playing elsewhere will benefit you overall.

The best things about futsal are:

1. The ball - Smaller, better for kids and it hardly bounces so all the movement of the ball has to be generated by the player.

2. Rotating Subs - Up to 12 players can participate, everyone gets a go at some point.

3. The 4 second rule - When taking throw ins free kicks etc this has to be done within 4 seconds and helps kids with decision making.

4. 20 min halves - Length of each half is only 20 mins, much better for younger kids.

For those interested in getting their kids involved in football where the emphasis is on improving skill and participation rather than results then get them involved in Futsal winkeye

Footballlers are not made, they are just born. Thats the reason there are very nice academies in England, yet Brazilians still fourish way above the English.

Stop asking Lampard to start dribbling like Ronaldinho or Messi.

These two didnt need people to talk for them in newspaper like the English do.

Skill is an in-born thing, you dont buy it, you dont go to school to learnt, but to improve on it, i mean if you already have it.

England are losers, please dont make jobs difficult for foreingers who have come to help!

Mark Lawrenson got 10 out of 10 predictions for last weekend's premier league wrong. All 10 incorrect for Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th of December 2007. Well, we all have bad days at the office but most of us put our hands up and say fair enough. Lawro's effort has been deleted. I can't find any trace of his Grand Slam Super Sunday predictions anywhere on this website. Don't give up Mark, you'll probably get them all correct next weekend. magic
