can we hold on

Premier League Sunderland
comment on the article

do you think that we can hold on to our 1-0 lead. we have had a goal disallowed but aston villa arent a team that will give up because they will be looking for any chances that come their way and they can take them. but mcshane has had a good game and lets hope that we can hold on.

A win would have been very harsh on Villa, just because you had more posession.

Keane can shut his trap because a perfectly good goal was disallowed.

The fact is we beat you. Keane has every right to be unhappy.

Idiot

Lads you're quite right in what you say - possesion means squat in football - it's what you do with it that counts. I just don't think Keane should bang on about a disallowed goal when his side have played poorly. A bad call yes, a bad result no. There were other factors to consider for Sunderland not picking up three points today, namely; the fact that they didn't play particularly well.

I've seen it happen to the Villa umpteen times and by god i know it blows when you lose a 1-0 lead at home and the ref skanks you just for good measure.

These things DO even themselves out and although you have scored lots of late goals this season (i apologise for acrediting that entirely to luck - i do appreciate the fighting spirit required to achieve this) you can't rely on that happening every game.

Mickey, keep the insults coming mate - i'm just here to chat footy. Peace.

I didn't think we'd hold on at the time but it's sod's law for us that yet again a ref as denied us a goal. These things DO NOT even themselves out - they do for mid-table teams, the top teams get the rub of the green and the bottom end gets shafted (no pun intended!)

Going into the game i would of been happy with a point. However to have a perfectly fair goal disallowed makes me feel very unhappy.

It was a case of two v important points being taken from us by a poor decision. Its so hard to take when this happens. If it was a team at the top of the league the ref would be scrutinised!!!

I have seen the foul on Carson. A clear elbow in the head. Every good ref would have chalked it off. I WAS AT THE GAME. Sunderland are a team of willing, but limited, triers. Villa dominated proceedings but never made any clear chances until we scored. Instead of going on to get a deserved a win we settled for a point against one of the relegated teams. Having said that Gardener should have been red carded and the whole game would have been different.

Doesn't it just make you sick.

A Sunderland player pushes a Chelsea player in the face and it's RED, a Chelsea player does the same yesterday and it's YELLOW.

I believe in taking the rough with the smooth but this is getting silly.

If we have half the bad luck from now on we'll be top half of the table.

LordVilla.

As a consolation prize the disallowed goal provided us with some entertainment as it remained the topic of conversation late in to the night and most of yesterday.
We've watched it over twenty times now and still can't see how it was a foul The attacker jumped with an arm outstretched which is a natural thing you do when you leap in the air.
Almost simultaneously Carson jumped and the two made contact. That contact was fair.

I am resigned to the fact that the goal was disallowed but don't try making something out of it that wasn't. After hours of analysis in our bar yesterday with fans of many teams even the Villa fans had to concede it was a goal.

Yes you had the majority of play but did nothing with the ball most of the time.

We on the other hand scored a twice.

However moral victories count for nothing. And seems that with yesterday's today's referee neither do goals.

As one of our Villa friends said, "You don't expect us to admit we were beaten by a team in the relgation fight".
I see his point but deep down he knows the truth.

Swings and round-a-bouts, had it been at the other end Keano and u lot would be crying foul and we would be saying good goal, afterall didnt your striker hold down the birmingham goalie when you equalised in the 94th minute, didnt hear you moaning then winkeye

Barry

No, of course we didn't moan, but we did say it was a foul and shouldn't have stood.

The goal on Saturday was deemed a good one by every independant commentator I've seen.

We've had some bad luck this season and have smiled through the tears, this was just a terrible decision.

The ref seemed to have decided Villa didn't deserve to lose the game, which was true, but that's not his job.
