Fabio I do hope you are fab

comment on the article

Not too sure about this one, as I think that after the Steve Mac booboo, and how the FA completley screwed it up. I think this time the FA have gone for a safe option. What I mean is; that the amount of criticsm they took at Steves sacking, and the so called root and branch reform etc, I think they decided to look for the most qualified bloke around. If he fails they will say, 'eh what do you want us to do, we chose the best bloke in the world and he failed, not us, he failed' backside covering as usual.

So although I still feel an Englishmen should manage England, I am willing to accept Fabio, as I can't see him failing. I may even go as far as saying that with the quality of players we have, we will win the next couple of major comps. He won't take any crap from any so called superstar, he'll just send them back to their clubs. He won't be afraid to drop Lampard when Stevie G is fit. He won't be indecisive about who to play on the left. he won't put an inexperienced keeper behind the posts for an important qualifier. He's also big enough to say when he's wrong as in the Beckham dropping. He admitted he got it wrong and brought him back and won the league.

So good luck Don Fabio as at last I feel good about us showing what we can really doon the world stage.

What do England fans want? Surely they want the best as would anyone? Well Capello has won something and is one of the best.

Want an English manager? who? The best English manager in the last few years was Sam Alladyce and he's won nothing.

I would have prefered Capello to be on a performance related contract (eg 2 years and reviewed after the world cup) but I don't run the game.

I am a neutral, in that I am a South African Italian in Dublin. First of all, I am happy it is Fabio Capello, of course! Secondly, it is my opinion that it is out of patriotism or nationalism (more to the point) that England fans want an English manager. The world is not so 'perfect'. I for one will never again be a nationalist of any sort, because of my mixed heritage and the fact that I am on a foreign island. So, for me there should not be any wonder at a 'non-Englishman's' appointment. He simply is the best available, and it is more than likely guaranteed that he will bring England much success.
In terms of why there are no 'qualified English' managers, it is so simple! I marvel at the fact that so many people are even asking this question! Most people agree that a minimum prerequisite or qualification is to have won the Champion's League. In recent years, everyone knows that Manchester United and Liverpool won it. Now, who are these clubs' managers, I ask? Are either of Sir Alex Ferguson and Rafael Benitez English? And a more important question is, when will the top 4 English clubs appoint English managers? Um, I wonder, do they perhaps see any 'qualified English managers' to manage their multi-million Pound organisations...? So, ultimately, perhaps my point after all this is that the blame for a lack of qualified English managers rests squarely with... well, with everyone, of course! The whole 'machine' that is English football - from the clubs to the 'beloved' FA.

Ah ... if only we had a wily Italian master strategist like Capello many years earlier.

Just think of all those golden opportunities? 1:0 against Germany Euro 96. 2:1 up against Argentina - World Cup 98. 2:0 up against Portugal Euro 2000. 2-1 against Romania same tournament. 1:0 against Brazil - World Cup 2002 Quarter Final. 1:0 against France Euro 2004 and 1-0 Portugal Quarter Final. 1:0 against Sweden and 2:1 2006 World Cup. 1:0 against Russia Euro Qualifiers and finally 2:2 against Croatia November last.

Now just think if we had had a master Italian to tell us how to sbut up shop and defend those leads ... how many tournaments would we have won by now?

what difference will it make ? in my opinion your so-called star players are mostly still overpaid, underworked, pampered, and poor.

even the magician copperfield wouldn't be able to conceal that.

like I say, you should taken basil fawlty. at least you would have some fun while you lose.

Anyone who manages England has a 99.99% chance of failing. Capello maybe the greatest football strategist that has walked the planet but he is now dealing with complete morons who are vastly overpaid. Since Capello will only see them several weeks a year, that's only enough time to rub salt into the wounds, not work miracles. What we need is a modern day version of Bobby Robson, a man who has the knack of discovering the right team completely by accident and at the right time. He'll make you feel you're the best player in the world and because he can discover winning teams by accident you don't have to worry about tactics which the players can't understand. If the FA wanted an Italian, Claudio Ranieri is that man!

Will people never learn?! You seriously think that will happen - all of a sudden we are miles better than anyone else. I am sorry but you are showing perfectly the reason so many abroad get wound up by us - total arrogance. Arrogance with a reason for it is fine, but in your case i assume your logic is we are english therefore much better!!

The English squad are a load of overpaid morons. With that in mind Frank Spencer would have done better than Fabio.

i dont understand when people say i hoped he was english or he has to be good. tell me a current english manger who has a better cv than capello, even the morinho isn't close. sven was you best coach since 1966 (by looking at his record). im sorry if this is hjarsh but england coach are not anywhere near world class. this country should be happy to have a coach like lippi.

i dont understand the argument such as their too many forigners or our players re over paid babies. it's excuses. italy won in 2006 and look at totti, toni, pirlo wages. in 2002, look at 'dinho, kaka, rivaldo contact. each top team has players who get paid riduclus amount of money.
secondly it doesnt matter if you forigners in your league look at italy and spain. what also intresting is how many english players gamble and leave england to play in contenetal europe "NONE". thaers too many excuses.
maybe the truth is england are not as good as people say the are.
