Yuvraj is Pakistan's tormentor

International Tests

Yuvraj cannot but possibly smile a few smiles inside when he steps on to the field and the opposition is Pakistan, because along with Dhoni, he has demolished Pakistan on many an occasion. India still need to bat well to try to get as close to 500 as possible, but with Ganguly and Karthik at the crease, and Irfan to follow, there is a good possibility to reach 500.

I hate throwing a taunt, but I had heard loud predictions of what Pakistan's fearsome attack will do to India, but the 5th wicket they got was throgh good fortune, as Yuvraj was looking to grind the bowling into the dust.

India shud drop Karthik and promote Dravid as an opener, to accomodate Yuvraj.

or drop Dhoni and have Karthik as opener and keeper.

There is no way Yuvraj can be kept outside the team now.Selection for first test against Aus shud be a big test for Kumble now.

Sachin/Sourav/Dravid/Laxman cannot be dropped and neither of them will retire.

Kadamban, I can't see how you can blame the Indian selection committee here. True, they have been guilty of several irrational decisions in the past, but here they had Yuvraj in the test squad right from the beginning. It was the team management that did not select him, and they are not totally unjustified. Everyone in the middle order (including Dhoni) has performed well in both tests so far.

It was a terriffic innings under pressure from Yuvraj, although the Pakistan bowling attack was weakened by the injuries and being one bowler short. If Indian team has to have any chance in Australia they will need someone like Yuvraj in the team, they have to do all the adjustments to have him in the team. And for that matter even Sehwag, somehow should be included in the team, with all due respect to Jaffer or Karthik or any other batsmen in the team, they dont have the firepower to produce attacking innings like Yuvraj or Sehwag.

yuvraj should stay in the team but that does not mean people should go overboadr and say sehwag should be back in the team.

kumargk
you say jaffer does not have the capability to produce attaking innings?
what about this series??
sehwag has done nothing to warrant a comeback, he was not that good in the recent 20/20s and his first class form has been poor

In a way, this was expected of Yuvraj. Who is a better bat than him now?
Let's hope he will be back with the ball to torment Pakistan. Congratulations to him and Ganguly. Great job Gangu Dada!
It is hard not to give India credit this time. So shall we say honours 'even'?

Yuvraj should be a regular in the Indian Test Team. Dravid should open, otherwise his place in the Test side will be at risk.

Many good comments in this forum so far.

Some good Pak bowling and Dravid's poor shot selection contributed to a solid Pak position in the morning. However, Yuvraj & Ganguly resurrected the innings - hail to them!

So with India at 61-4 and 4 good days of batting available I thought we were in big trouble. Everyone is right => 500+ is needed if India want to feel "safe" for a draw. I thought if we ended up like we did in Lahore in 2004, with only between 250 and 300 on board then Pak would be in the driver's seat for winning the test match.

In my mind 400-450 was the minimum needed to feel "somewhat safe." However, on a good batting track like Bangalore, even with that score on board, and a potentially fast scoring Pak team, 450+ isn't too too safe.

So far Ganguly has been patient and has not thrown his wicket away. I believe if he remains diligent and obtains 175+ India will be able to achieve 500+. If Karthik and Pathan can also contribute even better. Another critical factor is keeping Pak off this good batting track. Even if India does not score quickly, if they manage to keep Pak on the field, the job is being done.

Onto Day 2....

Yuvraj did a brilliant job to stabilize the Indian inning in the morning along with Savrav.

But I Yuvraj's this knock will not have any effect on selectors. This is because this pitch was batsman's paradise. I think any team even Bangladesh could get past 300 on this pitch. I think it was one-off innings by Yuvraj. More better way for evaluating Yuvraj would be on bouncy or on bowler favourable pitches. I dont think Yuvraj has patience or skills to play in such condition. Yuvraj is good or great only in ODI'S and Twenty 20 while players like Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman or Ganguly are better players for test matches because they have skills to stick around and play good cricket in bowler friendly conditions. I doubt Yuvraj can do that consistently.
Though Yuvraj did good job today he is not going to be there for long in test squad atleast untill Tendulkar or Laxman are fit to play.

Let's also spare a thought for Sourav Ganguly. Constantly berated by his critics and chided for not retiring, he is showing in this series as he has shown in South Africa and England, there can be no substitute for class and experience. The Bengal tiger is roaring again and it's a good sign as it comes just before the tour of Australia

Yuvraj has the potential to become one of the great batsmen of the coming era. It is ridiculous that he has been constantly overlooked for the test side. I have always believed in this lad, he has the potential to single handedly destroy a bowling attack.

For those who say..Is he right for test matches? Just because he gets his 100 of 135 balls instead of 250 balls does that make him not fit for for test matches...too aggressive..too brash?! I think this school of thought is pathetic! This boy has some serious talent and already has a psychological edge over the Australians after the Twenty 20. He should be a regular in the side ODIS & Test. Australians...be afraid!
