The Australian centre with a big frame who has recently moved to join Londons Super League side Harlequins RL.

Howell has played for Canberra Raiders and St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL, enjoying a healthy return in tries to games ratio.

Having beaten off interest from Wigan, he signed a two year deal at the Stoop.

At 24 he represents a boon for the Quins, managing to secure the signature of a young NRL player with plenty of experience at a relatively late stage in terms of player recruitment for the 2008 season.

At 6 ft 2 and close to 100 kilos the young Australian is being tipped for big things.

The big centre, who can also play on the wing or at full-back represents a move towards a power game through the middle, with all the Harlequins new players being solid, powerful and robust.

David Howell is tipped to prosper, working off the creative spine of the team, with the likes of Mark McLinden, Scott Hill, Danny Orr, Chad Randall, Julien Rinaldi and Rob Purdham offering the spark to see the London side once again competitive in the Engage Super League.

Harlequins have done well to get the former Tottenham midfielder onto a rugby pitch.

Strange to say this but this is the best signing Harlequins could have made; I reckon he is better as a centre than Henry Fa'afili, he is better than Wigan's George Carmont, cleary better than former Wigan player David Vaealiki, Ben Cohen or the host of other players they have been linked with.

He is no Jamie Lyon, but he is exactly what the London club need; size, pace, power. He is not going to break the bank and he comes from two clubs who play attacking football, to join a club who play an enterprising brand of play.

Looks like the Quins have themselves a player and a plan; Brian Mac wants them to play the Bradford Bulls team he used to play for. Power through the middle with creative players working off solid, if unspectacular plays.
