Was it a master stroke by Rangers?????

Scottish Premier Rangers
comment on the article

Why did Rangers wait untill the SPL offices closed on Firady?

By waiting untill 5.30pm for the SPL office closes this meant that Celtic did not know about the request by Rangers to pospone the Gretna game.

If Celtic had found out on the Friday about the possibility the SPL would allow this game to be canceled. I think they would have tried to get their game canceled aswell. But as it was only 24hrs untill kick off Celtic's request would have been rejected. This would have put pressure on the SPL to do the same with Rangers request.

But by waiting as long as Rangers did they made it impossible for Celtic to apply to do this as by the time Celtic found out about the request it would have been match day.

Did Rangers pull one over on Celtic and the "Great peter lawell"?

I just hope it has the desired effect and we win next week. I'll be in The Rangers bar in tenerife for the game. Can't wait.

The fact is that Rangers DID ask for a postponement, Celtic DID NOT. Neither did Aberdeen. They had the right to ask for one the same as Rangers but chose not too, or didn't even think about it.

When Rangers did ask it was too late for them as the deadline for asking had passed.

What can the SPL and SFA do other than deal with the requests they receive. Rangers and Celtic did them a favour recently so why shouldn't they return that favour?

Plus, it just means that Rangers now have an extra game to play in January, so I don't see how this is an advantage to them in the SPL. If anything it gives Celtic the chance to stretch out their lead and have Rangers play catch up, which is never easy.

Seriously, the paranoia is laughable!

As an Englishman looking in from the outside I would say well done to the SPL (and Gretna) for allowing the Gretna V Rangers game to be postponed. This move will give Rangers a better chance to prepare. Getting through (along with Celtic) to the last 16 would be good for all Scottish football. The argument that Rangers have got something that Celtic didnt get is not Rangers fault no one stopped Celtic making the same request. Its a little bit like two school kids arguing because one has got more sweets than the other one. Some people need to grow up. Good luck to both teams.

Wattenaccio football" it is a very defensive approach but a team must play to it strengths and if you are not blessed with brilliant players like barcelona then you dont play overly-attacking football.

Does that include playing at home to Inverness?

Spot on. Some fans (of any club) are so fickle and stupid!

The decision is embarrassing to scottish football. Does this mean that Gretna should have asked for their game off on the weekend just gone, so as to prepare themselves for the Rangers game (which obviously will not now go ahead), just as Rangers are doing with regard to Lyon?
And as far as I'm aware, Rangers' claims that the French FA are doing the same for Lyon, I believe to be untrue.
Part of today's modern game involves clubs having to produce a good SQUAD so as to deal with injuries, etc - which is why the old firm do so well - they have cash to spend on a good squad, and the smaller clubs, who may have a decent starting eleven, cannot cope over a season.
So, Rangers are asking for preferential treatment, not for the good of the nation [as the postponement of the two games for Scotland was], but for their own, selfish, unfair good. No wonder smaller clubs dislike the old firm so much - although to be honest, I've only ever noticed the blue side of Glasgow receiving preferential treatment.
The SFA have only themselves to blame for the backlash they WILL receive from this awful decision.

A few years ago Celtic were forced to play against Rangers less than 36 hours after an away fixture in Europe. The request to have the game rescheduled was refused by the Scottish FA. Lets not kid ourselves, the Scottish FA would do anything they can to help Rangers and the bare minimum to help Celtic. Please lets stop using the term old firm because it does not exist. This is an insult to the green half of the city.

Exactly littlejoe, there is no association between the two anymore. Thats clear for all to see.

We qualify by grit and rolling up the sleeves, the bluenoses give the boss daddy a tap on the should and ask a wee request - so its done.

anyhow, all eyes on the pampered lot next week to see if they can handle the heat.
