McCullough Fight Off

by The Sulphur Man (U8636851) 30 November 2007
comment on the article

Seen a breaking news story on TV that the Martinez v McCullough fight is off. Martinez failed to make weight. Very poor for me when fighters do that after weeks of preparation (or lack of) but it possibly saves McCullough from a career ending hiding?

Thanks Steve, I float between sites, so I'm not always atuned to the odd idiot that likes a wind-up.

I agree with ardybo that the performance of the McCullough double act in attacking a 78 year old journalist was disgraceful . I say that as one of a handful of people who travelled to see him fight the Prince in Atlantic City . Martinez was at fault for sure but the point made by the hack was that overweight matches have gone on in boxing for decades and by not fighting Wayne let himself and his fans down. His manager said cash was not an issue , yet Wayne has earned no money in the ring for over 2 years. My belief is that his camp sized up the situation and decided to scarper while his brains were still intact ! Bye Wayne I will not be back to see you again

Kiko's record is farcical,
go to boxrec.com and check it its an absolute joke, he caught dunne cold simple.

From killing myself to make weight i know exactly when mccullough was coming form, the guy was taking the P*ss. If anyone say the castillio corrales rematch corrales did the same and we all say what happened .

for some old cogger to wind him up after getting shafted like was also stupid. These are fighters we are talking about not fancy boy soccer players, mc cullough would have put his body through hell to make the weight and the other guy doesnt even try, give me a break.
do some research before you knock the man, McCullough was 100% right, they wouldnt even have put up with that in the ufc , kiko ran scared, disgraceful.

I believe Kiko's people offered for a catchweight fight, and since there was no title on the line then why not! So who ran scared?

Martinez may have been vastly unprofessional, but to suggest he ran "scared" of McCullough is too ridiculous to go unchallenged. I'm delighted that Wayne doesn't have to risk his neck against a hungry young gun and I hope more than ever that he sees sufficient sense to call it a day now.

I Suppose your right just look at all those BIG NAMES on Martinez record, Check it out in march last year he scope past Salem Bouaita massive record of 16 wins -11 losses with no knock outs. In march this year he fought Andrei Florin 1win -12 losses.
As for McCullough his last fight was against reigning world champion Oscar Larrios at 54win -3 losses -1 draw
Why didn’t he just fight at the catch weight, they were already fighting at the catch weight ! this kid had no right to try and move the goal posts twice, the reason why there's weight divisions is because a couple of pounds when you’ve starved yourself ran your legs off, and dehydrated yourself make a massive difference, boxers kill themselves to make weight mc McCullough probably didn’t drink water for the last 2 days to make the weight and this kid who has one name on his resume thinks hes calling the shots. He must have been used to getting away with this kind of thing in the boxing Mecca that is Spain, hence all those Knock outs, the last guy he fought before Dunne had one one fight and lost seven ? .
He would have agreed to fight Mac looking at his record on paper, (much like 90% of posters) and then viewed the tapes of his last 5 or six fights and realised he was making a massive mistake and spat the dummy and kept that "spectacular" record intact, but anyone that takes a minute to do a bit research would know better. Go to box rec check the record and then make your comments, he's a 3rd division fighter that got very lucky once. He should never be allowed to fight in Ireland again and he wouldn’t last 20 secs in the states,
