New Scotland Manager

Scotland

Our next manager must have experience and the respect of the players. A guy who has been there, seen it and done it. Also, in our limited world of footballing talent, must be able to forge a great team spirit and get the maximum out of our players as Mcliesh and Smith did.

For these reasons Billy Davies and McCallister surely can't be considered (even though they appear to be the bookies favourites).

Levien, 16 caps, maybe not a big enough name to command the respect. The same for Jefferies and Burns (too nice).

I think that since we are the 14th best team in the world, Souness fits the bill. He has all the necessary atributes I mentioned before.

Your thoughts please....

If Carlsberg made football managers they'd be Scottish Football Managers.

I don't mind Souness - would be worth having him just to see him stick a Scotland flag on the centre circle of Wembley after we win.

I said Keegan ages ago and now Traynor's with me! Keegan would be the best though - if he could get them to play like Newcastle did it would be glorious. We could beat the Netherlands 7-6. I'd love it. Love it.

I think the idea of having a general manager figure head, like Souness or Dalglish along with a full time head coach (Joe Jordan)who oversees all scottish teams, but bring in other coaches on an adhoc basis (Mark McGhee,George Burley,Stuart McCall, Colin Calderwood, Paul Lambert, Colin Hendry) thus giving younger less experienced managers exposure to the international scene and therefore creating a natural succession chain.

What about alex ferguson with steve clarke (been chelsea asst manager for years) as assistant .. and trainee manager for when he retires after the s. africa world cup. Also .. all the clamour for george burley ?? i am a southampton fan and to be honest he has proven to be pretty lost when it comes to any changes in tactics and is famous down here for playing players out of position.. bit like bertie vogts.. ! Burley also recently made 2 substitutions in injusrytime when we were already 3 goals down.. !

What about giving the job to Souness as Head and maybe Levein and the likes of Stuart McCall as assistant Coaches?

I agree with david7163 thats a good idea about big Joe having oversite of all the Scottish Clubs and being the eyes that Souness would need.

Following the tragic death of Phil O'Donnell, I think Mark McGhee will be ruled out of taking Scotland job as he will want to do the right thing by Motherwell by rebuilding a shocked team following the loss of their captain.
