"Who cares?"

Anyone who follows tennis and likes doubles and wishes to see Jamie do well.

"Blimey... he's not much of a looker is Mr Mirnyi! I don't think the two of them will be winning many beauty contests!"

Funny you should say that. According to various reports on the internet, Mirnyi ran into trouble with Belarus sporting officials a few years back after letting a magazine publish erotic photos of him (and his wife). Whether their objections were on the ground of decency or taste is unclear.

why do people come on here saying who cares, and stuff like that. It's those kind of people who haven't got a clue about sport, or perhaps thinks they do because they love football or one sport but can't appreciate another sports.

Tennis fans and sports fans care, that's who.

Sounds like a very good partership for both.
The beast has a very good serve and has a fair amount of power wher as Jammie has great touch and is an excellent volleyer.

Max has been in the top 20 as a singles player and has been number one in doubles.

Also he is still in his 20's albeit just, but the other players Jammie was being linked to were all well into their 30's.

I think it will be a very good match up and lok forward to seeing them winning lots of titles next year.

Not shallow in the least, are you?!!!

I hope Jamie does well and doesn't get impatient if they don't win straight away. Good luck!!!

Great for British tennis. Max Mirnyi is a very well respected player and doubles specialist with 33 doubles titles. Jamie could learn a lot from him. Let's hope the two can really gel together for the long term.

Jamie Murray is light years away from being a great tennis player and he's too useless to play singles! What would be great for British tennis is for tennis to be a lot more accessible from the ground up. I.e. everyone should be able to go to their local youth centre, hire rackets and play tennis for a very nominal fee. Once tennis becomes accessible we'll get proper champions coming through and people like Jamie Murray will be a distant memory.

He is the only grand slam winner for many many years.
He Knows he is not going to make it into the top 20 with his game, so he has moved to an area where he can maximise his strenghts and earn a living from the sport.

He has the potential to be a great doubles player.

An excelent move for Murray, I dont think he could have dreamed of getting a better partner. Be interesting to see whether Mirnyi will be so happy with his new partner if they don't win titles straight away...

----

Doubles is just as legitimate a form of tennis, it's just one that is not as well publicised. In fact for youngsters and beginners it is a fine form of the game as the emphasis is more on tactical awareness and touch instead of speed and power.

It IS accessible. Any kid can buy a tennis racket for less than £5 and there are courts in most large recreational areas.

The fact is because of tennis's image (perpetraited by people saying it is inaccessable) kids don't want to take up the sport.

A successful player in any form of the game can only help improve that.
