Olympic Stadium - no thankyou

League One Leyton Orient

comment on the article

The Standard reports Barry Hearn as claiming the Olympic Stadium is certain for O's providing the League give us permission to play the first month of every season away. This is becuase we play second fiddle to athletics events. So we give up our own ground for a glorified running track where we cannot even play at home for the first four weeks at least. Not good for us supporters and not good the team. They will always be up againgst it to get off to a good start and then will have to cram home matches at the end of the season. Even when at home the players will be so far from the fans it will be like playing on the marshes. We can look forward to:

- no football for first 4 weeks of every season as all games would have to be away
- first round Carling Cup will always be away
- at the mercy of any other athletic event
- rubbish view
- no atmosphere
- toilets outside the ground
- foodbars ouside the ground
- little control over our own stadium
- Brisbane Rd flogged off

The Olympic Stadium cannot take us to the next level but it can take us down.

No, because no-one has - we hold the record. Seeing as we're moving less than a mile, I see no reason why we can't retain the 'Leyton'.

Woolwich Arsenal? Sure there must be a few more...

I know it's only a mile up the road, but the ground's not going to be in Leyton anymore.

Couldn't be Clapton Orient in Leyton...etc...

I think reverting back to just 'Orient' keeps the identity of the club. Don't like the idea of 'Stratford' Orient.

Millwall don't play in Millwall, which is north of the Thames, so does it really matter?

Easy solution:-

"Olympic Orient".

Can't understand the debate here.

As a fan surely we want the best profile for our team.

In my opinion the 'capture' of the Olympic stadium would be massive but then again given the location and the legacy thing it is ours by right.

Can't understand how the possibility of a rugby team taking it over has any resonance in the East End. Not too much rugby being played on the Marshs from memory!

Go for it Bazza.

It would not be just the O's ground. The Olmpic stadium wants two tenants, Orient and Wasps. We would thereore compete to play againgst the rugby club and the athletics events. The pitch would be a mud heap.

If we ever need a bigger stadium we can rebiuld the East Stand and the coronation End.

i think that not playing games in august will be a major problem as season ticket holders will have to pay for games even if they have played for a season ticket at the olympic stadium.
As there will be athletics track around the pitch this will limit the atomsphere and might n ot get the orient players playing to there best of there ability

Well. The good news is this...
Whatever happens, it won't happen for 5 years.
This will allow the O's to establish something of a home fortress.
All clubs seem to have major problems for a season or two when moving to a new stadium, or even developing their current stadium. (Arsenal, Hull, Darlington, Oxford biggrin )
The massive changes at Brisbane Road the past few years only goes to prove the point. The ground hasn't been settled for ages. Our home record hasn't been settled for ages.
If we stay, let's try to create a 15,000 capacity ground.
If we move, we have 5 years stability before upping our profile.
Hopefully we'll be an established Championship side by then.

iiiiiiinteresting.

I am not an Orient fan, but come down when Watford aren't playing. Pretty much as a 2nd club. I think it would be bad to lose BR, but the chance of playing in such a large venue, with the potential for financial increase, would be too hard to turn down.

As an Orient fan of over 30 years i say we should move.
Brisse at most games is like a wake,no singing ,no real fan involvment.
When Millwall came to us they sang for all 90 min,we sat there like mutes.
Maybe new olyimpic venue could turn our fans into real supporters,or we could atract some real fans with passion..
