Are clubs to blame for coaching crisis?

England

None of the leading contenders for the England manager's job are English.

And the League Managers' Association is in no doubt about the main reason - the lack of opportunities that English bosses are getting in the Premiership.

LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson contrasts the opportunities given to Rafa Benitez and Alan Curbishley.

"When Benitez got the job at Valencia, I would say his record was inferior to that of Alan Curbishley, who had turned Charlton from First Division strugglers to an established Premiership outfit," Wilkinson said.

"Yet Benitez got his big chance at Valencia, where he did brilliantly, while Alan has gone on to West Ham. None of the big four came in for him over here."

Reading boss says English and foreign managers are not operating "on a level playing field" when it comes to getting opportunities in the Premier League.

What do you think?

Are the Premier League clubs responsible for the dearth of top English managers?

who says there arent any good enough english men for the job? how about Moyes, Hughes?
but i think the biggest challenge for englshh football is that every one in england "knows" football an they claim to want a coach good enough to actually win something but what they really want is someone who'll play kiss tyheir behinds. well i guess theyve learned the hard way.

Its not a club to blame for coaching crisis.only the matter is up to FA,there is still top class manager in england like HARRY REDKNAPP who got a vast experience in english football.

I am from Croatia and of course I watched the game last Wednesday! What is your problem, your biggest problem is that you people have too much money! Average paycheck to football player in Croatia is about 5000 euros, and in Montenegro is even worse 1000 euros! P.S. You are maybe wondering, why we were yelling VUKOVAr at the game. We yelled because we think that you were responsible for what happened there, and this is our way to get even!!!!!!! Greetings from Croatia and we see you on euro2008, of course on TV

After blaming the dearth of quality on foreign players, the next point of call is managers!

If you have a global business, that happens to be sited in Engalnd, to run and make a success of it, would you hire people just because they are English OR it will be on the bases of competence and the capacity to work in sync with your goal?

Club football is no more a kind of philanthropic venture: it big business that has gone global!!!

How anybody expected an American(Manchester United and Liverpool), a Russian(Chelsea) or a Thai(Manchester City) to put their money in a business just to build materials for an English team beats me.

If you have suddenly realised English managers are not good for purpose(look at the leading contenders for McClaren's recently vacated job), why do you not ship them all off for re-training somewhere, along with the golden generation of players that keep churning out wooden cups?

Please, stop this circus of blame and let us get to work! The world cannot, and will not, wait for us.

The media is to blame for appointing England managers all wrong,! WE need a manager who has no dealing with the press ,and who also lives outside the UK
