Euro 2008 England

Total disappointment and anger flows through the body at this point in time. Lack of passion from the start, the national anthem wasn't belted out like it should be, the mascots were singing louder than the players, it is supposed to be such a proud moment singing your anthem and playing for country so why don't the players do it, do they know the words?! Do they just expect to be playing for England just because they have a "superstar" name and are paid millions each year!!! I feel sorry for all those who paid to watch that performance, especially the first 45 minutes where a very lack lustre approach seemed evident...4-5-1....were we going for a draw from the outset?!! Maclown's approach to this important game should be criticised! Every time they showed him in the first half he was standing there with his bottle of water (or was it gin or vodka in there, clouding his judgement) under his brolly not even shouting....then he comes strolling out a few minutes after the second half started, talk about taking the mick!! It's the don't give a damn attitude that stinks when these people are paid so much for playing a sport or managing a sport that supporters love and would love to be given the chance to be amongst!

To say that we have to rely on other teams results in the group is an embarassment in itself. To say oh we might have had a chance if the likes of terry, ferdinand and rooney were playing is also a kop out, as in previous games in the group they were playing, are we therefore saying that the players replacing these names wern't good enough, if so why were they chosen? At the end of the day it shouldn't have been left to the last game to qualify, it should have been done and dusted much sooner. We don't deserve to be in the Euro Championships the way we have played. Hopefully this will be the shake up and wake up call the players/management/FA need!

"3 lions on the badge, not 3 kittens"!!!

I'm Greek, I'm official LFC supporter (only, not Greek team's!), I care so much about Liverpool, but also about the "Lions"...

First of all, to ease-down the pain from the England's failure, this TITLE is by far the BEST and funny ever! Totally BRITISH hummor, as much as I love it!

Now... England has been so many years to show a POWERFUL squad (not this isn't!), but MOST of all, a SUPERB leader/boss/skipper, to "sail" the English "ship" to victory!
By all means, I DO NOT want a "foreign" coach, ESPECIALLY a latin one! (Maybe I love so much Liverpool and I'm accepting Rafa, but he's a latin - latins are TOTALY unsuitable for English teams - and I would like a British, like the legendary Billy Shankly)...
So, I DON'T support a "Murinho's choise", although I've been in Portugal and had great time!
ENGLAND NEEDS ENGLISHMEN, DAMN IT!!!
ENGLAND HAS ALREADY... STEVEN GERRARD, FRANK LAMPARD, Paul Scholes,... ENGLISHMEN with passion, to winning and bleed for!
That's a coach England needs! An Englishman, AT LEAST A BRITISH (Scottish, Wales, Irish...), with success and "Tiger's Eye".
I would EVEN ACCEPT, our rival's... Sir Alex Ferguson.

Anyway, my opinion... As many as coaches/players from Britain in the British teams, as much as GREAT National Team.

Cheers to all, hope to see my Livermates in a FOURTH Champions League Final ('84, '05, '07)!

Beckams response is one you would expect, just as the feeble comments by Steven Gerrard prior to the match about leadership, desire, and the sort of games he relishes as a pro footballer. They all choked!! No bottle!!
Fortunately for the players and the FA Steve McClaren has paid the price for a whole host of inadequacies. Brian Barwick and co should equally go as they sanctioned the appointment of McClaren after cocking up with the failed appointmentof Scolari.
The players as they have consistantly shown that none of them have pride in either themselves or the England team shirt. They by virtue of their sub standard displays dis-respect the loyal fans for both country and club with platitudes of commitment and valour, absolute Bull! Apub team would have shown more guts and inspration than Gerrard and Co!!!

I was very disappointed that England didn't qualify because they have played such rubbish. If they had managed the draw and qualify it would have been a travesty. All of England's problems would have been papered over, there would have been some criticism in the press but hey, who cares we qualified except we didn't. Now maybe something will change for the better but I like so many don't have the answers. The only one's who bothered on the day were Crouch and Beckham, the rest should be ashamed. Every time you saw the Croatian team's manager he looked as if it was the most important game of his career, he wanted the win, for the pride of representing his country. Mac and his losers lost before they started. Graham Taylor said before the game that if you play for the draw you could lose because of the break, play for the win and if all you get it is the draw then be happy for it. Lawrence Dallaglio put it so succinctly when he appeared on Top Gear about footballers and their inherent inability to stay up straight after a tackle . The rugby players call the premier league the Andrex premiership, soft and unnecessarily expensive.

I must agree with the sentiment of many who have written here. Englands players just haven't got the passion to win, the skill, the flair or the team work. They say they are disappointed, they will bounce back, more competitions to play, but how many times have we heard this before?! Time and time again we hear the same old dribble from the likes of Beckam and Gerrard after England fail to win, or crash out of a competition. They must think
we are all stupid! and believe me Beckham it does hurt much less when you have millions to
fall back on. My idea, sack the lot of them, from the FA to all the players! Bring in players that want to win, that don't earn stupid amounts and have that passion which we see in most other european teams. Until soemthing radical like this happens England will Never and I repeat, NEVER win anything ever again. In 1966 I was 2 years old, will I see England win anything before I die?!! I think not!

I think all the English fans and management forgot one important thing, Croatia is a very good team!! The won the group, the have been to a world cup semi final not too long ago, they have always performed well. They are a Soccer nation! I think what happened here is that a superiority complex took over, England has not achieved anything significant in many years yet they are placed above other countries all the time. You have to prove yourself on the field which you have not done in a long time. Stop singing rule Britannia and focuse on the rebuilding of your team and accept the level at which you play now, just average.

Too much emphasis on McLaren. What about the people who lost the game - the players! I watched their performanc with horror.I hope that nobdy is paying them more than £20 a week for their "talents"

It sounds so good, 4,5,1 formation. Ill say it once more 4,5,1 formation, at home at wembly after being given a life line on the weekend,Infront of 85 thousand English fans we play a 4,5,1 formation. Gamble .
the guys havin a laaff.
Oh and a game of this Importance, I know lets put an untested international keeper, to go with my untested international back 4. and lets play it all In a formation that None of the England players know how to play and 1 that they have never played together regarding this team,
Oh and did i say lets also play them out of position In regards to the midfield, and lets all play for the result of a draw even though we are using attack minded midfielders to do the job.
* makka Gotta hand it to ya, when you go ,you go out in a blaze of glory*
What a MUPPET. should have played a 442 from the very start.
small diamond In the middle, hargreves infront of the back 4 for cover, which would have stoped there play that was mainly central.
thought the guy would have realised this the first time we played.
oh well enjoy the 2 million maclaren, you have earned It.
advice on your next career role, COMEDIAN PERHAPS.

look
i think the sacking of mclaren was a very difficult choice, at the end of the day mclaren had a make shift team without ne of the 1st team defence, carson had a shocker in the first half but 2nd half really did well that showed great mental strength defo 1 for future ! but also at the end of the day mclaren chooses the team, he trains the team... but at the end of the day the players are each individuals in a team, they make the choices in the game not the coach they shud take most of the resonsability, i think what we need is a shearer personality, sum1 who u could always rely on to score goals, inspire the team.. i do think that beckham is the closest to this kinda figure!!

sort it out england
