The end is near for test matches

England

What a farce this practice match is turning out to be. First of all big steve can't bowl because his shoes are lost in transit and now Sri Lankas Presidents XI are spending far too long at the crease for a 3 day game. It is so obvious that their objective is to test Englands stamina and prevent them from spending anytime at the crease so they may not be in touch by the time the first test comes round. Unfortunately this is the way that test cricket is going and supporters are showing the men in charge exactly that by poor attendances in test arena's. Until something is done to save this long version of the game and supporters are given value for money the i am afraid our future generations will not be playing test cricket.

I would love to put you arm chair critics in a net and let the guy bowl at you flat out.

You'd all have damp panties...The mans been seriously injured, had a doughnut as a coach, seen his best mate ripped to shreds in the media, change of coach,no bowling because the coach thought bowling would be bad for him and strangely he "lacks form"...

Crickey..What should we call him..Superman...

So whos up for a little purfume session in the nets..by the way it hurts even when it hits your pads when the ball arrives at over 90 mph..trust me,..it hurts...

Pearl, your logic is fallacious. It will not be message-board and armchair critics facing Harmison - it will be Jayasuriya, Sangakkara and Mahela etc. These guys have just faced Lee & co. ; besides Harmison struggles to clock 85mph these days. In short, we don't need to be outstanding cricketers to voice our opinions on messageboards.

I would be Harmison out of the team and sending him home, he's unfortunately past it. His international career in cricket should be coming to a close.
Sidebottom, Anderson, Broad, Hoggard and Panesar should be in the team for the first test.

SWamy..sorry pal but the majority of you dont have a scooby about quick bowlers and its easy to say he is past it..he isnt..

Try experiencing it before you comment. Its not Club cricket its Test cricket and the guys got 200 Test wickets which says something. At his age he is just reaching his prime and as such is still our number one strike bowler...

harmison has done great things in an england shirt, however, whether he is still the best we have got, i dont know. he seems a bit hot and cold for me....
where as hoggard has consistently performed fro england, but he will never be the dynamo that will blow you away that hrmison was and has the potential to be again.

what is all this about his boots being lost, surely one of the other fast bowlers have some boots they could lend him. if it were australia, and lee or one of the other bowlers had lost his boots, he would have another pair on before anyone noticed they were gone. what im saying is harmison obviously didnt want to play that much, or he would have just borrowed some boots, i know its only a warm-up game, but it couold be the game that solidifies a test place for harmy, so iof you ask me, he should just get on with it......

Pearl - Anyone who plays a decent standard of cricket knows that pace is relative to the standard you play. If you play amateur cricket then 75-80mph would frighten most players and 90mph you wouldn't pick up at all !
However whether you play Test Match or Cheshire League you should be able to assess a good performance based on stats and Harmison's are poor in recent times so he needs to prove himself again in County Cricket. Not just given a chance because "he used to be Number One in the World!"
The guy can't bowl straight consistently and needs to get his groove back again over a season. Stuart Broad might not be as quick but he is head and shoulders better than him at the moment plus he can bat that lad.

If, as Peter Moores says, Harmison is OK and nicely lined up, does that mean that going for 8 runs an over without taking a wicket is acceptable ? Try telling that to the bowlers back in England who toil day in day out in County cricket and are trying to break into the Test arena.

i would quite happily face steve harmison in the nets and i wouldnt even wear a helmet .the guy is a joke not even a has been !!!yes he may be fast but he has no accuracy .he started his career well probably more luck than skill but the bolt has shot .he was even crap when we won the ashes we won that with three bowlers.he is a lazy feeble oaf why do you think he pulled out of one dayers ?

Harmy is a little overated, he had 1 good series in his life in the windies and not since has he come anywhere near that. It does not matter how fast you are if you have no control, he will always go for lots thats him.We have better options elswhere and when freddy comes back there will be no need for a wayward fast bowler if freddy is fit, i suspect harmys days are numbered and sooner the better.
