Browse: Cycling Exciting youngstersby willyboy453 (U10400255) 19 November 2007 I have been a semi keen follower of cycling for a long time now, and especially enjoy watching the tour de france and went to the london stage this year. I feel that although British cycling is relatively strong at the moment (Chris Hoy etc) that it needs an injection of talented youngsters to provide the spark for future success. I have one in mind who i beleive could proviuse this, he is Ed Thomas, a hugely talented rider who can do most dissaplins, be it mountin or road cycling, anyone else think he can become great in the future as well? or know of any other hot prospects? Grannyringer (U10466939) posted Nov 22, 2007 Re talented youngsters, it is very difficult for them. My son is 20 and is a very talented elite amateur road cyclist. He has had to move permanently to Spain where he trains with other top amatuers and pros. He has had not a single penny from British Cycling who will only consider funding him if he competes on the track. I have nothing against the track, but what British Cycling needs is a tour cyclist who can really challenge for jerseys in the major tours. I have to fund my son totally. It is very difficult for a youngster to survive on the continent with all the barriers (language, solitude, expenses etc.) in his/her way. The sad thing is that we do have the talent. I just wish British Cycling would start to put some of the available cash into developing road cycling, rather than pursue more and more track success, which it really only achieves because other major cycling nations don't really give it much importance.
