He was desperately unlucky to have played at a time when Australian batting riches were pretty much like they still are. He did score the winning runs in a World Cup final. His legacy will be the continued high standard of batting in Australia because someone as good as he was wasn't considered to be good enough to hold down a regular Test spot.
