Lehmann bows out

An emotional Darren Lehmann announces his retirement

Darren Lehmann has announced his retirement after a glittering career.

Well at least at first-class level.

No-one has scored more runs than 'Boof' in domestic Australian cricket - not even the great Don Bradman.

But he could not get into the Aussie Test side until he turned 28, partly because of the great batsmen they had then and partly their coach Bobby Simpson, who had little time for extravagant players like him.

Lehmann finished with only 27 Tests to his name, which was a shame because he hit the ball as hard and sweetly as anyone in his era.

How good was he in your opinion? Was he treated badly or, as some say, just unlucky to be born in the wrong country at the wrong time?

KAAN, back to the soccer boards matey.
If you can't engage in sensible debate and at least have the decency to respond when asked then don't bother.
As for the Hookes case, a piece of advice, stear clear of it.

Its not a lifeline at all. Everyone in the group plays the same amount of games. Its judged at the end who is best when the everyones played their matches. Taxi for you mate!

wonder what country you are thinking of. If he had been born in England his flair would have been coached out of him by the time he was 20 and being taught to sweep and other negative shots instead of free flowing cricket shots.

Darren Lehmann was a fantastic servant for Australian cricket. He was desperately unlucky to have played at a time when Australian batting riches were pretty much like they still are. He did score the winning runs in a World Cup final. His legacy will be the continued high standard of batting in Australia because someone as good as he was wasn't considered to be good enough to hold down a regular Test spot.
