Where do Scotland go from here?

I'm sure there are more than a few of you suffering from hangovers after Scotland's cruel defeat.
But we can't be despondent for too long. There are many positives to take from the last 18 months or so.
The World Cup draw is made in a couple of weeks and we have to build on what has been achieved.
So, where do we go from here?
We have a top class keeper and Alan Hutton has made incredible progress at right-back. Man-of-the-match against Italy - our best defender and our best attacker.
McManus is solid but Weir can't go on for ever - who's going to step in and replace him. I'm not sure Caldwell or Anderson are up to the task.
And we have been crying out for a decent left-back for a long time. Will Lee Wallace develop if he can't get a regular game for Hearts?
Our midfield is strong, although Fletcher was pretty anonymous on Saturday. He needs to play more often at club level.
That also applies to Maloney, while it would be good to see Robson get a run out in a friendly or two to see if he can cut it.
Up front, Miller and McFadden have never let us down, although Faddy may not have slept too well after his miss...
Boyd is a good poacher and we have Steven Fletcher and Naismith to step up from Under-21 level.
McLeish could well be off is a EPL club comes in for him - Birmingham??? - but the makings of a strong, young squad is there, so roll on the draw in Durban.

I hope ceej1979 pops into this thread again. At the time of writing his far superior team are losing 2-0, which goes to show what twaddle he was spouting.

I'm Scottish, but I'd love to see England go through, but at the moment they seem to be doing their best to throw it away. What was going through McLaren's head? Fresh air, I think...

"There you go, another Scottish excuse. We wuz in a hard group! Would you like a hankie?"

Like a hanky now Timmy?

"But when you're a fourth rate footballing power at the start of the campaign, it really doesn't say much about their overall ability, does it? You're not a very talented team and a couple of lucky wins against the French have amounted to nothing."

As opposed to your great team getting beat by minnows of Europe? Hahahaha, i'm still laughing after watching England crash out from an easy group! So what does it say about your overall ability? If we are not very talented, then England must be talentless!

We were always going to be lucky to come 4th in our group and you lot were expected to walk yours - but what happens? Oh thats right, you failed to even qualify. I suppose you are lucky Andorra didn't beat you. They'd be about your level these days, amongst the worst teams in Europe!

Look at respective tables SCOTLAND 24pts
ENGLAND 23pts.
With the scots having the more difficult group i would say SCOTLAND faired a lot better than ENGLAND.
Now for all the paranoid replies.whistle

Today is a good day. McClaren is gone and we'll end up with a coach who can deliver some silverware.

Meanwhile, across Hadrian's Wall the best you can realistically hope for is to qualify for a major tournament and go home three matches later.

Timmy The Troll
You really are a sad sorry wee man who cant seem to make any comments without degrading the Scottish National Team, seriously you need to
get yourself some sort of a life.
I think it is an absolute shame that there are no British teams left for us all to cheer on and wish everyone the best of luck for the worlds!!!!

Called them fourth-rate was perhaps a little unkind. Third-rate is much more accurate, wouldn't you say?

"third rate"

If thats what you call the Scottish National side thats fine but that would then mean everyone in "pot 2" must be "third rated". Wouldnt you say?

Timmy the Troll

England have won one major trophy in 77 years of international competition. No finals reached. One trophy.

Now that trophy was won in the only World Cup Finals during which the hosts got to play ALL of their games at their home stadium. It was also won with the help of one of the most outrageous decisions ever to have been made in a senior football match.

You may say that England won 3-2 and would have won anyway. However, the goal was scored with the score at 2-2. England scored their 4th with the Germans chasing the game.

England may still have won the game had their 3rd goal not been given, but may very well have lost it.

Just a wee history lesson for you, you sad little boy.

Off to bed now Tim (what a god awful English name)

Some days you get the luck, some you don't. Its part and parcel of football. I just wish the Scots would stop whining about the decisions in the Italy match. You lost fair and square.

You seem to have problems spelling your name correctly, Scotty.
