Do they really believe that Boggo is going to be a decent prospect? I don't understand why they don't put the money into developing more players and in turn having quantity to choose from.

A 3 year deal? Does that mean £750K PER YEAR?? Now I've heard it all... here's one person (and I know someone else too) who won't be rejoining the LTA next year. I agree a good coach can make a good player better but you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's earhole!

Nice to see them admit that Murray fell out with Gilbert, Gilbert has been there and done it all as a coach, Murray still has a way to go, lets see how wise that decision is in a few years time.

Remember he made the top 8 this year, what will come out of the next few years? His team of "experts" don't sound very expert to me, certainly not compared to world class coahes like Gilbert.

I haven't comment on Andy Murray split with Brad Gilbert, but I will say and I will leave it there that is Andy's lost not Gilbert's.

With all the money Murray has made why doesn't he repay some of the money spent on the coach?

What a surprise the LTA waste money again, when will they ever learn throwing money at the latest big thing is not a guarantee for success. Murray is a world class player, Gilbert has a proven track record, but this whole thing was bound to explode in the LTAs face.
It will be interesting how committed Murray will be to Davis Cup now that the LTa are not picking up the tab for his coach!

Listening to the Roger Draper interview, he is insulting the British tennis public if he thinks we swallow that fudge, Gilbert will be working with'Boggo' for 16 weeks, is this in addition to Peter Lundgren, or has Lundgren been dumped after being under the influence!
Face it Roger, you took a huge gamble that the Gilbert/Murray dynamic and you have been left with egg on your face!

As a player you have to do what you think is best to get the best out of your own game. Murray will have taken on board things Brad said, but he obviously feels there is more to gained from working with a number of 'experts'. As long as he is comfortable then I dont think it really matters - Federer has played often without a coach at all and played superbly so I think too much has been made of this.

I think Bogdanovich must be the luckiest player in the world at the minute - let's just hope he applies himself and gets all he can out of Brad.

Its not so much about Murray but the ridiculous situation the LTA have put themselves in.

Who in their rightmind would pay a reputed 750k p.a. on a 3 year deal for essntially one player if not just to get reflected glory.

Amazing that the 3 best players of recent years, Henman Rusedski and Murray are nor even products of their system.

Draper now tells us that no big severance payment is being made to Gilbert but that he is being compensated by halving his commitment to 20 weeks. I suspect he is getting the same money for half the work for agreeing to shorten his deal by 8 months.

Whatever he is being paid is ridiculous to work almost exclusively with Boggo to try and get him into the top 100.

I think Gilbert must be laughing all the way to the bank.

<< "I think Gilbert must be laughing all the way to the bank."

>> Yeah, the situation is ridiculous - still if Gilbert can get Boggo up to the top 20 of the ATP then I'd say he'd be worth his 750k a year. Then again pigs might fly !

But seriously, if Brad is as good as some people think he is (or as Brad himself thinks he is), then let's see what he does with Boggo's ranking.

Personally, I think that as long as Murray took care of his fitness issue then his ranking was going to the top whether Gilbert was at his side or not.

Alex is lucky with his coaches recently, but has been very unlucky with injuries this year, he has bascily been injured since wimbledon and only managed 1 week or so of fitness.

His ranking has therfore plumeted and if he loses his match today (against karol beck, former top 40 who has just returned from a lenghty suspension) then he will probably end the year around 190.

hopefully over xmas he can get some good training in and start the year well (although with the dc so early on will be hard to pick up many points). Lets hope Gilbert can do what many others have failed to do. The talent is obviuosly there (you dont get 2 points away from beating roddick on grass without it) but the mental side hasnt been there consistnetly enough.

i also think he really needs to spend some time with a physio etc he has been getting far too mnay injuries recently and something needs to be done about it, maybe will have to change the way he trains.
