We lost. But i can guarantee you that no Scottish fan is cursing the loss. Yes, we are all disappointed and yes their second goal was extremely unfortunate but I scorn any Scotland fan who critisizes the national team. They gave their all and we have a lot to thank the players for. They gave us a great ride.

Im not anti-english but i just think it would be an injustice if Scotland - who were fantastic throughout - didnt qualify and England - who were lost at times - qualified. On paper England are about 5x better but the difference is Scotland play with their hearts and passion for the nation and England are not as proud.

Scotland have not let me down - I praise them for the efforts. You should too.

Good luck to England on Wednesday - but i will not be supporting them in the finals if they qualify. The jeering england fans coupled with the English media over-hyping their team, has infuriated me.

'You relied on a bunch of Jews to carry you through. Congrats'

I had a comment deleted for Pro England Anti Scotland bias, but I bet you in a Scottish article this guy will be ignored.

Not all the Israeli players are Jews. There are Muslim Arabs in the team as well, I believe. And don't disparage them - Israeli football has improved by leaps and bounds recently. I can't imagine Scotland beating the 'bunch of Jews' in a month of Sundays!

I was at the game on saturday, an italian living in England. I'd like to say to all the Scottish people that they were absolutely brilliant, I've never experienced such an atmosphere in my life. Great support and sporting at the same time, something the English will never learn to be.
As for the game, it was a great performance by the scots in the second half and i would have settled for a draw (we wanted the French OUT!) but if you look at the game over the whole 90 minutes we probably just deserved to win. Bad decisions were made against both teams - that's football. Don't start talking about conspiracies because we believe UEFA is against us too, which country doesn't?
Good luck to all the teams that qualify for euro 2008, may the best team win!

some of the comments made above are plainly awful. I am a scot and proud to be one, but anti semitism even in gest can be particularly damaging given the events of the mid 20th century. and a s a scot i certainly do not want to be associated with racism in any shape or form. We are a proud people and this pride goes hand in hand with being able to get along with other nationalities. Why tarnish it by having a bad case of sour grapes?

I was livid at the referees decisions, and I thought we deserved to win, but it cant be changed. For the second half WE made the ITALIANS look worse than England. Im proud of that fact and think we have an excellent chance of continuing that form all the way to SA.

Lets just hope we get itlay and england at some point so we can get some sweet revenge winkeye

Alkymalky, even if you DO manage to progress 'all the way to SA', take a look at Wikipedia for a reality check, quote:

"The Scotland national football team have an unenviable record at the FIFA World Cup finals. Scotland have competed at eight World Cup Finals, but have never progressed beyond the first round of the tournament stage. This is the record for the FIFA World Cup tournament of the team to have qualified the most times without having ever advanced beyond the first round."

Hmmmmmmm......then there's the Euros....

"Scotland have qualified for two European Championships but have failed to advance beyond the first round on both occasions, most recently at the 1996 European Championship."

Doesn't look good does it. Stick to watching East Fife at least they might win something this year.

What do you have to say about Scotland failing to qualigy now England fans?

In another debate just after the Scotland game, a poster said, prophetically as it turns out, that if England had been in Scotland's position, coming third and failing to qualify, the fans would not be celebrating; they'd be furious and the manager sacked. The point he was making, I think, was that we, the Scotland fans, were somehow naive to feel proud of our team even in failure. I think his attitude illustrates one of the problems with the English game - the fans' (and media's) expectations are unrealistic, and so they are destined to be disappointed (and then nasty).

Maybe if England hadn't won in 1966, life would be better for England fans. Since 1966 hasn't the media fuelled the fantasy that England will always be in the top-tier of world football? It's a fantasy because since 1966 there have been no championship victories to support the claims.

So after 40 years, I think it's time, for their own good, that England fans face up to reality. The team's not much better than Scotland, so lower your expectations and you may actually enjoy supporting them, the way I enjoy supporting Scotland. At the end of the day, that's what it's supposed to be about.
