Jewell sounded out about Republic job

International Republic of Ireland
comment on the article

Former Wigan boss Paul Jewell has acknowledged his interest in the vacant Republic of Ireland job.

Jewell has confirmed that he has held informal talks with former Republic boss John Giles who is believed to be sounding out candidates for the role.

Giles said that he had held discussions with Jewell but he would not confirm that he is working on behalf of the Football Association of Ireland.

"I'm certainly not ruling it out. I am thinking about it," said Jewell.

Do you think that Jewell would be a good choice to succeed Steve Staunton?

Give you thoughts on Jewell and all the other apparent contenders.

What are your thoughts on the process being employed to find a new Republic manager?

[1] Houllier - Would be amazing, great CV and has the ego to get the best out of under performing players like Damien Duff, Shay Given and Robbie Keane

PLEASE DO NOT APPOINT TERRY VENABLES: WHY?
[1] The man can hardly string a sentence together, quite possibly the most inarticulate person on the planet;
[2]He was once the England manager, you can't have an ex English manager manage Ireland, he will never get the backing from the people. Thats twice now, England have terminated his contract, please take note!
[3] Venables has been rubbish for years, consider the crap job he did at Leeds (despite a poor squad) he was a joke tactically, remember the time he threw the ball back into play and the opposition scored against Leeds!

DO NOT GIVE IT TO O'LEARY! WHY?
[1] Oh the wasted millions, millions upon millions down the drain at Leeds United, who will never be back in the big time because of this idiot
[2] He nearly bust Villa as well, jesus this man is a liability to football, an absolute joke

HOULLIER IS THE MAN, He's managed France, Liverpool (won numerous trophies at a time when the Liverpool board would spend nothing), Lyon (once again winning trophies such as the french league title 3 years in a row)

PLEASE GIVE THE JOB TO THE MAN WITH THE BEST CV, WE KNOW THAT PEOPLE ON BOARDS ARE UNEDUCATED AND SERIOUSLY POOR AT MAKING DECISIONS, I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN JOHNNY GILES SELECTING THE RIGHT CANDIDATE - ITS GOT TO BE HOULLIER!

Venables?? Jesus, Jesus Christ.

Maybe Hoddle if he's interested. His record is very solid, especially for England - got them out of a WCQ group that contained Italy and England were only eliminated by Argentina after taking the lead and having Beckham sent off...on penalties. I don't agree with his beliefs, but who cares?

How much money did Houllier spend at Liverpool ?
Young, experienced, drive, determination and a passion for his own country, not a foriegn mercenary who will only give 99 per cent at best, O'leary is yer man ! A top o the morning to ya!!

I think the race of become the new manager is overshadowing a key issue... The development of Football in Ireland as a whole. We need to invest in facilites across the country and develop talent so that we can move forward in the future

Regarding the top job i think we need a more tactically aware as we never seem to judge it quite right. We have heart and spirit but no tactical awareness. International football isnt about buying players for x million its about tactics

Im not ruling out O'leary because naturally an Irish manager would be great but i think we need to look to Houllier he has many trophies on his CV and started the French footballing revolution so has a great knowledge of the international game i think we would be foolish to turn up an opportunity of having somebody like him as our national coach
