He's Simply the BEST!

Yes and who else would I be talking about other than the great man himself Michael Schumacher. Schumacher showed us yesterday, despite going a year without a good proper run in an F1 car, that he still had more pace than everybody and he should consider returning. If I was Schumacher I'd go to Honda, just like Ross Brawn, and say 'I've got a job I can do for you.' But that would mean dispensing Rubens former team mate!

Haters? Didnt realise this was a MS love in thought it was somewhere to debate? My points remain, if he is simply the best then his record would be unimpeachable, it isnt, and it wasnt. Ive watched F1 for 30 years or so now and he wouldnt make my top 5 over that period, nevermind including drivers b4 that period.

"Didn't take long for the haters to arrive....."

Didn't take long for the thin skinned to misunderstand the thrust of all the comments that simply questioned the relevance of the lap times. I saw no "I hate MS" comments anywhere, just a few from people who don't think he's the best ever.

Find me the "haters" post please.

I can remember one test last winter where this year's Honda was fastest, but then that shows that winter testing is completely useless as a guide for anyone outside the team to accurately judge pace. Knowing the size of Mr Schumacher's ego, there is no way he would come back and be slow, so I am pretty sure that they will have done a 'qualifiying' set-up and sent him out for a few fast laps, when other teams may have been testing longer run set-ups. We don't honestly know. So the fact that Schumacher was fastest, in a test session like this, is essentially meaningless. Also, look at who else he was driving against. Not Kimi, Not Alonso, Not Hamilton. So again, meaningless.

Schumacher is without doubt one of F1's true greats, I grew up watching his career and he's definately one of my biggest sporting heroes (despite the many dubious tactics).

But I for one really hope he doesn't succumb to the temptation to make a come back. He left at the right time, when he no longer felt he could put in the extra work to keep up with the younger guys, and when he felt his powers were beginning to wain. I'd hate to see him come back past his prime and be humiliated by the new bread of young drivers at their peak.

I'm not saying that would necessarily happen, he might be very competetive, but you only have to look at boxing for examples of people that have gone on too long: Leon Spinks beat an old Muhammed Ali, Danny Williams beat a shot Mike Tyson and no one can be happy about the beatings that Evander Holyfield is taking from guys he would have destroyed ten years ago.

It would have been great to see him against the likes of Hamilton, Kovalainen and Rosberg, but now that he's called it a day I hope he sticks to his decision.

Eduardo_rules,

well put, couldn't agree more with you. However, I don't think we've seen the last of him, he'll be around for a long time yet in other roles

Although I love F1 this is where the sport and some fans are just plain silly, the only sport where if you win the most times you don't necessarily win the overall title!!!! And then THE man Multi world champ at two constructors most podiums and wins most champ wins and still can't be respected as the best, it's very sad.
