Royle out of Leicester job race

by Derek O - BBC Sport (U1647599) 13 November 2007
comment on the article

Joe Royle has withdrawn his interest in filling Leicester City's managerial vacancy because of "personal reasons".

Is losing Royle a major loss to Leicester?

You can't call it a "major loss" because he wasn't apart of the set up. Major disappointment - yes, because I think he has a vast amount of knowledge and experience of the game and that is just what LCFC need at the minute.

But, Mandaric knows best, although that's what we're supposed to believe.

We may one day regret the non-availability of such an experienced manager, but quite a lot of supporters shared arro's 'dead wood' feeling about him, so it's doubtful he would have been a unifying force.

And it's certainly a lot better that he has decided now that there are 'personal reasons' for not doing the job, rather than take it on and then quit in a couple of months, leaving us looking for our fourth 'permanent' manager of the season.

what are you waiting for Milan??..Get Jewel in before he gets a better offer after he rejected wigan. If not, Get Grayson in with Taggart...note for Walshy, get your badges quick so you can join the team with credential s on your CV

Joe Royle has been very professional in his dealings with City. He's not messing anyone around and whether he would have been appointed is pure speculation so it can't be classed as a 'major loss'. What will be a major loss will be if Mandaric drags his heels and we miss out on a manager of the calibre of Paul Jewell and end up with someone like Souness who, despite his experience, I do not rate at all. Having said all that, my own preference is to appoint someone who will have a genuine passion for LCFC and a long term vision and goal - not aim for instant promotion - If Jewell declines any offer then Taggs and Walshy would be my dream ticket.

I agree Royle has been very professional in his dealings, it's a great pity that Mandaric doesn't show similar ways in getting LCFC out of their current plight!!
