Alonso's Next Move?

There has been much speculation about Fernando's next move, and the structure of any team that he would be joining.

From Autosport - Extract of Article: Renault Wait to Hear from Alonso (3.11.07)(Sorry I'm not sure how to post the address to link straight to the website)

"Alonso's former teammate at Renault Jarno Trulli revealed Alonso has been in touch with Toyota, giving credence to some rumours that Alonso has asked Toyota to hire former Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn.

"I was immediately informed by phone of the split between Alonso and McLaren," Trulli said. "I know he has spoken to Toyota and has asked for more technicians: it would be great by me..."

It has now been confirmed that Ross Brawn has joined Honda, and wants to build a team as there are no challenges at Ferrari. Bearing in mind that Fernando has yet to secure a drive for next year, and many people have felt that Rubens Barrichello's year at Honda has not been that successful, what do you think about the possibility that Fernando might be paired up with Jenson Button to help build the Honda team in the way that he did with Renault in the years that he won the WDC? Of course, this might not happen, but bearing in mind the comments made by Trulli on 3 November, it's making me wonder whether it's a move towards building a completely new Honda team for 2008 with two very experienced individuals who could potentially bring a lot to Honda. Given the year that Fernando has had and the fact that Felipe Massa has signed a new contract with Ferrari, I think that this could prove to be an interesting move for Fernando, as it would allow him to concentrate on building something positive with his previous experience, which would in turn, allow him to leave behind much of the controversy that has plagued him this season.

I'd be interested to hear what you think ....

I'm quite sure Alonso will end up at Renault but he could surprise us all and go to a 'bottom end of the grid' team where he will have the undoubted No 1. driver spot.

However, I would like to see Alonso in a team that will give him a car that he can challenge for the championship because a three way scrap between drivers in three different teams would be brilliant for the sport.

nolant - i think you will find your way off as Alonso wasn't even allowed to join Mclaren until Jan 1st 2007 because of his contract with renault so how can he be uncomfortable 2 months before joining a team, or are you suggesting he broke the law?

Possibly, all I know is I saw and heard the interview on Spanish television well before last Christmas when Alonso came out with the comment himself!

I'm so sick -as a Dutch- about the English Alonso bashing! Why was Coulthard never be hailed as this rookie Hamilton? Because he's a Scot? Now even Hakkinen has stepped into the bashing. Hakkinen for christ sake: my long term fave....Of course, he was Ron Dennis' fave too! How could I've been ever be so blind? sadface McLaren has no equal racers, and never had there's a no.1 and a no.2. I hope that Alonso at least find a place where he can be able to be a happy racer: champion or not. As for David Coulthard, thinking this will be his last season, I'd hope that he at least scores some good points because I'm afraid there's no more to it. I'm gonna give myself a "Sinterklaas" present (Dutch December 5 tradition) "It is What it Is" D.C.'s biography. I'd wonder why that Hammilton boy has already two biographies? Crazy world.....erm

This post was not about McLaren and Lewis Hamilton and it was not about Fernando bashing either. However, sadly, Fernando's season was difficult because of all the problems he had. It is purely about guessing where it he might end up next season, and what he could bring to a team like Honda IF that's where he ended up peacedove

I know! I'm just sick how England has gone collectively insane about this rookie! What a fuss! He won 3 Awards and is not even a champion yet! Kimi Raikkonen won his well deserved championship. And if he was only hanging around in bars he wouldn't have become one don't you think? At least he's has a more colourful personality than Lewis. A bit of an odd to say in this context.

Not sure what you mean at the end there, but does it really matter if we like Lewis? Kimi and Fernando have plenty of fans in their home country and over here as well. The good thing is that the interest in Lewis has resulted in more fans liking F1, so it can't all be bad can it? smiley
