South Africa stadia behind schedule

World Cup
comment on the article

Organisers of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa have admitted that two of the grounds being built for the tournament face "very very tight" deadlines to be completed on time.

Is this a cause for concern, or just a storm in a teacup, the sort of thing that always happens with every big building project or major sporting tournament?

Are you happy with the progress, or do you think there needs to be a back-up plan? Are you planning on going to the tournament - if so, what are your hopes and worries about the experience?

Your thoughts and views please...

how do you define a great world cup? a great world cup is played out on the football field. like the 1995 rugby world cup and 2003 cricket world cup, the event will be a success.

Blatter needs to go Full Stop.
He's just too political and not enough about the football. And that chip on his shoulder about all things to do with English football....off with his head please.
As for the stadia in SA ..as long as they keep hitting the deadlines let them get on with it. If they start missing them and it starts to look grim, pull the plug and give it to Australia. They did a cracking job of the olymics and have plenty of large stadia with a decent enough transport structure. Failing that give it to merry olde England as we have the best stadia geared for football anywhere in the world. The transport is sufficient enough to do a good job at short notice. Plus how good were the Euros's in 96 ?? and we all can see the improvement in stadia since then ... let common sense prevail if SA miss the window.... i fear not with Blatter in charge though.
Good luck CTID

What a joke this world cup is going to be. Have enquired about visiting already. And have been told that the country is to dangerous to visit, you will be escorted from airport to hotel and only allowed out to visit games by highly police escorted convoys to stadiums and then straight back to hotel. Utter joke!! Blatter enjoy the money you received from giving it to south africa, shame no 1 going to be there

ablue1972...wtf was that all about!

Firstly, the country is not dangerious to visit...I used to live there clearly!!! Never been a victim of crime once, and that was in the apartheid riots era.

and you are NOT going to be escorted fro airport to hotel etc...thats a lie. There is no way that this is happening, and obviously the reasons why are too complicated to explain to you.

Please, dont go, means I can get more tickets for games!

Australia??!?!

Suncorp, sydney football stadium and telstra stadium...mcg is a cricket field and telstra dome is round too..
south africa has newlands, kings park, ellis park, loftus, rustenburg, all 40,000 and higher and all in need of minimal upgrades, im not sure how australia is apparently more prepared in terms of stadia.

sure they have good public transport, but the cape town - johannesburg route is in the top 5 in the world in terms of capacity.

how did cape town become a top ten tourist destination? why is it highly rated by major UK tourism agencies?

I live in South Africa. It depends on where & when you go how safe you are. It's logical, same as any country where you have people without work and it is not getting any better here!65% of matrics have no chance at jobs. It's not just the Coloureds and Whites that have no future here.Even the Blacks r struggling. The Black farmers have cost us over 40% of our food production! The people need money with which to buy food which is getting more and more expensive! It's going to be interesting by 2010, thats for sure!

Fed up with the politics of FIFa. It was ridiculous to give the world cup to japan and the usa let alone s africa. If mandela dies in the next couple of years it will be zimbabwe 2.
Time to reasign the venue.

After living in South Africa for the past 5 years, the best we (The English) can hope for is that we dont qualify. The South Africans believe that because they have hosted the Rugby & Cricket world cup, they can host FIFA. They have no concept under god how many people are going to descend on the country and they have no way of accomadating, transporting or feeding the supporters. what has France 1938 and South Africa 2010 have in common? The third world cup!! As for the crime, crime is so rampant because there are so many criminals and crime in SA pays. A jobless black can live begging on the streets or he can get fed in prison 3 times a day. God alone knows what precentage of SA's economy is dependant on crime. In 5 years i have been burgled 6 times, woken up by a black with a saturday night special to my head once, had 3 cars stolen and had my daughter sexually abused by a paedophile. Nkosi sikelel iafrica. I dont think so!!!
