Wenger to keep faith with Almunia

Premier League Arsenal
comment on the article

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is to stick with Manuel Almunia despite his mistakes against Man United on Saturday.

Is he right? Would you rather see Jens Lehmann come back into the first team?

This was Almunia's first big test of the season and he didn't seem to pass it with flying colours. A couple of years ago at Highbury in the defeat to United he went AWOL again as I think Giggs crossed for Ronaldo to head in.

Should Fabianski be given his chance?

Is the goalkeeping position Arsenal's one weak link?

Let us know what you think....

A goal keeper is as good as his defense. Although you expect a goal keeper to be very calculative but the decision is made in less than a second if you most react to any move of the ball. I think Alminia should be allowed to continue. All asene wenger need to do is to allow him so as to build his confidence because just last week he was at anfield and on saturday he played agains man u., these are tough games. Cech consided two against this same united. So lehmann should be more professional, he should know that there is time for everyone in life to flourish and I really think he has had his time and alminia has been very petient he should do the same. There are so many tough games ahead and arsene cannot afford to be changing keepers just like that, he should allow alminia to grow more in confidence by using him continually no matter how anyother keeper is feeling at present. Gunner 4 life.

I don't think we've had a class keeper since DS.

I've never liked Lemon, just think he's intrinically unsafe and too prone to "Barthez moments".

Almunia's better, but frankly he'd not get a game for any of the other top 4 sides.

I think it's high time Arsene addressed this one, because the GK position has been the weak link for quite some time now.

Can't believe Almunia is getting so much grief. He could hardly be blamed for the 1st goal, the 2nd (I agree)he made an error of judgement but they can hardly be compared to Lehman's 2 absolute howlers earlier in the season. He may not be a top class keeper but give the guy a break !

We need LEHMANN back!!!
although we need to get permenant replacement for him as he getting very old and aluminia isn't premiership leading quality and fabianski is too young and we need a world class keeper
NOT ALUMINIA!!!

the goalie position is our weak link
and could be the difference between winning the title and losing it

Jens is a liability without doubt. Hopefully he's played his last game for us.

Fabianski is not ready yet.

The team is stable.

We are top of the league.

AW is right to stick with Almunia, end of.

Despite some comments in favour of Lehmann - most of those rightly pointing out that his time at Arsenal should come to an end after this season, which is a fair point of view - I see mainly polemic opinions here regarding this issue.

I admit I am a Lehmann supporter but even I have to agree that Almunia has improved and that it would probably be unfair to him to kick him right after his first bad game. Still, it is not news that he doesn't have what it takes for the big games. A solution like proposed by some to put Lehmann in for the big games and Almunia for the "small" ones is hardly anything a professional manager will do. As things stand we will have to wait for Almunia's second and third blunders before Lehmann may return.

It's true that Lehmann is a loud mouth but to point out again and again that he's German is nothing short of nationalist - and a bit embarrassing on top of it, seeing that he delivers time and again for Germany while none of England's goalkeepers are playing on a good level.

I agree to one of the previous posts that rather than bringing bad spirit into the team, Lehmann's antics might very well fire up the team. I sure wouldn't like to be the one who commits a defensive mistake with Lehmann in the goal. I would give it my all to avoid his anger after conceding a goal.

I also agree that it's no good idea to bring in a new keeper in the middle of a season that seems to be going well and is seeing Arsenal up for the title. It could ruin the whole campaign. Lehmann - and Almunia - were good enough to get into national and international cup finals. They can deliver again.

Truth to be told, I didn't like Lehmann when he still played in Germany. And when he came over here, he needed to adjust, too. But the last few years he has been outstanding, despite a few errors, but who's counting the errors others made? A goalkeeper is only as good as his defense. That's true for all teams and games, incl. the recent clash with Moan United.

I believe Lehmann is the safer option despite his occasional outbursts and I don't think that a goalie who hasn't made a secure No. 1 spot in a team by 30 is the better choice.

All that Lehmann bashing is just as silly as the Almunia bashing. My view.

only schmeicel has been better than Seaman - in history! A young Seaman would be a 50 million pund keeper in todays game
