The old cliche "a game of two halves" was never more true. 9-6 to Leicester at half time, all penalties, and Cardiff had the better attacking chances. But they failed to find the final pass or kick to break the Tigers defence, and lost their hooker to the sin bin a minute before half time.

In the second haf the Tigers pack picked up the pace. They used the pick and drive through the middle to put cardiff on the back foot, then moved the ball wider to create their 5 tries. Tom Varndell went over first from a clever break and chip from Goode, and Johnne Murphy grabbed two on the other wing. Dan Hipkiss made a slashing break fo the bonus point, and the pressure from the forwards at a 5 metre scrum led to a penalty try.

Cardiff managed two tries of their own through the New Zealand duo of Rush and Blair, but were outfought over the 80 minutes. They never let their heads go down, but lacked precision at key moments, and it cost themthe game.

AND Varndell was tackled without the ball as he was on his way to scoring a try, and the blues player should have been yellow carded. The ref must have been Welsh. winkeye

well played tigers!!!! we look back on top with the big guns back. initially good by cardiff, but the yellow card and tigers' powerful, fast backs saw us through. any opinions on healey's comment that varndell is the next habana?

Varndell made a couple of important tackles, his defence is becoming pretty solid, and with his pace kicking it long to him can leave the opposition exposed.

Varndell is hard to mark because of his pace and footwork, the long cross kick is always a good option as well because he's tall for a winger. Seems to have gone to great lengths to put some physicallity into his game and that showed yesterday with some good tackles and him staying on his feet in the tackle more often.

The referee was rubbish throughout the game. The Blues yellow card was harsh espiecially since Tigers had been punished for several identical offences before hand. However, the tackle on Varndell when he was through was not given despite it being a case book case of taking a man without the ball.

Sometimes it's as if Refs get one decision wrong (late tackle on Varndell) and then try to redress the balance with another wrong decision (Blues yellow card)in favour of the aggrieved team. Thus creating another aggrieved team.Mind you logically that could lead both sides being yellow carded in their entireities.biggrin

Cardiff are weak up front and won t win anything with Young as coach. Ospreys pack are a match for anyone and will prove it over the next few weeks. Leicester won the game when Cardiff were down to 14.

Leicester won the game when they got ball in hand. Cardiff retained posession well in the first half but when they went down to 14 and Leicester secured ball that was it. With Crane and Corry motoring and the backs firing it was game over. Even when they were back to 15 Cardiff couldn't threaten a cruising Leicester who stepped up when they needed too without going anywhere near top gear. Cardiff just lacked that penetration in the first half and it cost them.

Tell me, Corry got man of the match quite rightly so because he, like Moody, was everywhere on the pitch and played his role superbly, but, i think some are missing one crucial part of the game on Saturday. Jordan Crane was immense at No.8. He communicated well with Frank Murphy and and the other two back rowers and he put in some big tackles, never being driven back. Each time he got the ball, he made a b-line for the gain line and got over it each time. One for the future methinks.

the leicester fans have to be some of the worst in the game.

Consistantly shouting rubbish calls in the game. I accept the tackle on varndell was late and probably did warrant a sin bin...but the joker behind me was calling for a red card and a penalty try...50 metres from the try line.

Throw in the fact they only ever cheered when Leicester scored a point. Throughout the game they were completely silent. Nice stadium, but horrendous support.
